Drake hints at 'brand-new' album on live dance-a-thon, Diddy says he is among his Top 5 rappers
Drake showed up on Diddy's Instagram Live on Sunday, April 12, as part of the rap mogul Diddy's live Instagram dance-a-thon, which aims to raise funds for healthcare workers during the COVID-19 crisis. Diddy roped in numerous stars throughout the fundraiser, including a reunion with his former flame, Jennifer Lopez. However, it was Drake's revelation that his new album was on the way that rocked the world of music fans.
After Diddy asked him about what he is working on in the studio, Drake said: "I'm working on the album, I've been working on it for a while now," Drake revealed, adding that the quarantine period had been a blessing in disguise for his creative process, because it had helped him focus on his work.
"Another silver lining is, when God does get you to sit down, I remember the last time I had to sit down was when I tore my ACL. And I made a great album out of that. Obviously God has us all inside the house right now sitting down, so the amount of focus I'm able to put into this album is probably way different than it would've been if I had to go through the residency in Vegas and be able to go meet up with Justin in Miami or whatever," said the forward-thinking star.
Drake also said he was quite excited about the new record taking shape. "Saying all that to say that, definitely, this is the most excited I've been about an album in a long time," he admitted. "A lot of little stuff has been trickling out but all the stuff on the album is fresh, it's brand new. I'm excited. This is probably the most music I've ever been sitting on. I'm hyped."
Diddy also concluded the virtual meetup, praising Drake's talent. "So there's something I wanted to say to you. It's very, very important. I've been a studier [sic] of music, science, art, mathematicians, the actual numbers and codes that goes into it. And so, when they talk about the top 5, all of those have got a special code... It's clear the work you put in, you're in my official Top 5. For real... Hits, hits, hits."
Diddy then broke out into spontaneous applause for the humbled Drake, who thanked him, saying "That means the world. There are very few opinions that hold as much weight as yours... we studied you since Howard [University] days, and [about] how relentless you were." All this mutual respect between the two hip-hop legends might make for a compelling future collaboration on Drake's latest album, so let's hope that it becomes a reality soon.
