'My family came to say last goodbyes': Dr Dre reveals near-death ordeal while battling brain aneurysm

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent episode of 'Workout The Doubt podcast,' aired on Apple iTunes, Dr Dre revealed his close-to-death experience while battling brain aneurysm in January 2021. On August 15, Dolvett Quince shared a snippet of his upcoming episode with Dr Dre, where the rapper explained that he was unaware of the seriousness of his health condition.

The rapper icon stated, "They allowed my family to come in. I found out later, they called them up so they could say their last goodbyes because they thought I was outta here." He said he realized his condition's severity only when his family visited him.

He remembered he was rushed to Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles to receive emergency treatment and remained in the ICU for the next two weeks. Dre also added, "I’m at Cedars Sinai hospital and they weren’t allowing anybody to come up, meaning visitors or family or anything like that, because of Covid. I didn’t know it was that serious, you know? Seeing my mom and my sister and everybody coming in the room."



 

The rapper legend whose real name is Andre Young stated that he was constantly observed by the medical team, "Basically looking like sobriety tests, like touch your nose, rub your heel on your calf and all that s**t. So every hour for two weeks, I had to wake up and do that," he said. "As soon as they’d leave I would try to go to sleep because I knew they’d be coming back in the next hour." The singer also claimed, "I never felt like I was in trouble. I felt like, OK, I’m just going through procedure. I’m ready to go home."

In February this year, Dre collaborated with several artists such as Snoop Dogg and Mary J Blige for their upcoming records and also released an EP titled, 'The Contract'. He also performed at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show along with other stars such as 50 Cent, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar. Meanwhile, he also produced the song, The King And I, for Baz Luhrmann's Elvis biopic. The rapper star is popular for his compositions such as 'Training Day', 'The Defiant Ones', and 'Straight outta competition'.
