'He had been sexually harassing her'
Accusations against Suragin are very damning. According to the latest reports, the victim was allegedly raped, beaten and strangled in a lift, which was left "covered in blood".
The incident took place after a boozy party at Fatezh Central District Hospital in the Kursk region. Following the party, Suragin told detectives he had been "drunk" and did not recall what had happened afterward.
If witnesses are to be believed, the doctor, who is married, wanted to have an affair with the nurse and had "harassed" her in the past.
Devastated family of the victim
A relative of the dead nurse has come forward to say that "it is a terrible story". Elena, the relative, details the aftermath of the crime giving a brief but gory idea of what would have happened in the elevator. "They say the lift at the hospital was covered in blood. She suffered rib fractures and other injuries. He had been sexually harassing her."
According to some reports, her friends say that Irina had a stable, long-term boyfriend in the Russian Army and had refused the advances of the doctor.
What is probably worse is that Irina did not attend the party where the doctors were drinking. Instead, she had been on duty, her family reportedly said.
Irina had big dreams — she worked hard to someday become a doctor and scored “excellent” marks at Kursk State Medical University, her relatives added. Irina’s former school teacher Tatiana Tsybulnyak said, “From the 9th grade, her desire to become a doctor was so strong. Her death is a terrible tragedy. Eternal memory to you, Irina."
