'Dorohedoro' Season 1 Preview: Netflix's strangest anime features a lizard-man hunting the mage who cursed him
The world of anime is, admittedly, a weird one. But what Netflix has in store for the world with 'Dorohedoro' is stranger than anything we've ever seen before. Created by Q Hayashida, 'Dorohedoro' is the story of a man with the head of a lizard who is trying to find the magician who cursed him. Except he has no memories of his life before he got the reptilian head and the only way for him to find the one he's looking for is to take their heads into his mouth, where a strange face will appear and identify them.
The story takes place in a dystopian world split between two dimensions, the Hole, where the humans live, and the Sorcerers' world, where, as you can guess, the magic people live. The Sorcerers are basically a different species, though they appear human, and they oppress the humans with their magical powers. While the human world is basically your average punk dystopia, the Sorcerers' world is split along a hierarchy of power. There's also a magical crime syndicate and a powerful family of mages involved and literally all of them want to detach Caiman, our hero, from his cold-blooded head.
Joining Caiman in his quest to assault as many magic-users as possible is Nikaido, Caiman's best friend and the owner of a restaurant where he has a long outstanding tab. Together, these two strange companions wage war on the Sorcerers, searching for the one who started all of this by disfiguring Caiman. They are opposed in this mission by a powerful Sorcerer obsessed with mushrooms called En, who is intrigued by Caiman's ability to resist magic. The show consists of 12 episodes and features the vocal talents of Wataru Takagi (Japanese) and Aleks Le (English) as Caiman, Reina Kondō (Japanese) and Reba Buhr (English) as Nikaido, and Kenyu Horiuchi (Japanese) and Keith Silverstein (English) as En.
The official synopsis on Netflix reads, "Amnesiac Caiman seeks to undo his lizard heard curse by killing the sorcerer responsible, with his friend Nikaido's help. In the Hole, that's a threat."
'Dorohedoro' will arrive on Netflix on May 28.
