'Morning Joe' Donny Deutsch blasts mainstream media for obsession with Donald Trump: 'It's over. He lost'
President Donald Trump is known to have an acrimonious relationship with America's mainstream media but is the latter too guilty of giving him undue importance especially when his tenure is now set to expire? Donny Deutsch thinks so and has slammed the mainstream media for remaining obsessed with the president with non-stop coverage and called it “guilty” of focusing more on the outgoing president instead of PJoe Biden, his successor in the waiting.
Deutsch, who regularly appears on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ show, on Monday, December 28, lashed out at the media to say: “Enough, it’s on us now. I mean, he’s a lame duck. It’s over. He lost.”
“It’s an hour and 20 minutes into the show and... it’s the first time the name Joe Biden was mentioned. Enough with Donald Trump already. He's done. He lost,” the 63-year-old said, adding: “We, the media, have to be a bit disciplined and not continue to just cover this jerk every time there’s this flatulence. I mean, enough already. He lost, it’s done. We are guilty of keeping him front and center all the time.”
‘Morning Joe’ has been a regular critic of the president over his term that started in 2017. Deutsch feels it is futile to keep the focus glued on Trump from this point onwards and asked the mainstream media to ignore the incumbent who became the US’s first one-time president in more than three decades.
Trump and his loyalists, however, have refused to concede defeat to Biden in the November 3 election and have sought legal remedies to overturn the results that saw the Democrat winning by more than seven million votes. But none of the efforts seeking to turn around the results have paid off for the Republican and his own party has started alienating him and accept the reality.
Trump’s allies are now plotting to disrupt the Congress on January 6 when it sits to count the Electoral College votes that have also confirmed Biden as the winner.
Deutsch calls Trump 'impotent', questions him on coronavirus relief bill
“Why did he decide to do what he did about the [coronavirus relief] bill? Who cares at this point? We’re done with you. You’re impotent, you’re done, you lost, goodbye,” Deutsch, who said a few months earlier that one in three Americans are racists because they trusted Trump, added. “We, the media, have to, kind of, come to grips with that... he is irrelevant in terms of the power of this country.” He later apologized for using the term “yellow man” while criticizing “racist” Americans.
Trump flirted with the idea of vetoing the bill Congress passed to provide relief to Americans who have faced economic hardships in times of the coronavirus pandemic saying the stimulus check amounts should be raised to $2,000 from $6,000 but eventually signed the bill on Sunday, December 27.
When Deutsch, a Jewish, was told that Trump still had the power to veto the Covid-19 relief stimulus and government-funding package, he said: “It's an everyday thing with every network everywhere, we are almost... it's this weird drug that we're all attached to at this point.”
A former TV event host himself, Deutsch said the temptation to cover Trump’s outrageous behavior will remain high but will lose its necessity after January 20 when Biden will take over.
“I'm just cheerleading, you know, basically saying like, hey, the wicked witch is dead. We don't have to guess what's in his head anymore. You're gone, buddy,” the marketing professional, who compared Trump with Adolf Hitler in September, said.
