Kelly Mayhew death: Fake beautician who injected silicone bought on ebay causing woman's death during butt lift pleads guilty
A British woman on Friday pleaded guilty in a court in Queens, New York to killing a client in a botched butt injection procedure.
Donna Francis, 39, who originally hails from England, had set up a shop in the basement of her home in Far Rockaway, Queens, from where she performed cosmetic procedures without a license. In May 2015, Kelly Mayhew, 34, went to Francis for a butt-injection, at a bargain rate, but instead paid for it with her life. Mayhew along with her mother traveled to Queens from their home in Maryland, for the procedure. Mayhew paid $1600 for the procedure in cash.
According to a press release released by Queens District Attorney’s Office, Francis was injecting silicone gel which she purchased from e-bay into Mayhew’s backside on a massage table.
As the silicone was being injected into the 34-year-old TV producer’s backside, she started displaying signs of distress, according to the authorities. Francis panicked on seeing the victim in distress and fled from the scene.
Mayhew’s mother immediately called 911 for help.
Acting Queens District Attorney John Ryan said, “She (Mayhew) went into cardiac arrest as the defendant pumped a clear liquid substance (silicone) into the woman’s backside.” The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled that Mayhew died of “systemic silicone emboli” — which occurs when a silicone injection into the human body is not properly encapsulated and enters the bloodstream, causing an embolism.”
Francis fled to London the very next day, hoping to get away from all the mess she had caused. For four years she managed to evade justice, but was finally extradited back to the US. As per the terms of her extradition, she can’t be imprisoned for more than a year. Her sentencing is scheduled for November 14.
