Donald Trump woos evangelical base with endorsement for 'Bible literacy' in schools after shutdown setback over wall
The president tweeted his endorsement after 'Fox & Friends' aired a brief segment about the proposed bills with Christian Broadcasting Network's chief political analyst David Brody
President Donald Trump on Monday expressed his support for "Bible literacy" classes in American public schools in an attempt to re-energize his evangelical supporters.
The Republican's move has come at a time when some conservatives are doubting whether he can secure a deal for his border wall against Democrats.
The president last Friday ended the 35-day long government shutdown, accepting a bipartisan bill that would end the shutdown for three weeks.
The bill did not entail any funds for his long-promised border wall. The shutdown was imposed on December 22 after Democrats refused to allow $5.7 billion to be put in the Congressional budget for Trump's controversial wall along the southern US-Mexico Mexico border.
