President Donald Trump on Wednesday renewed his battle with the ‘Squad’, albeit indirectly. The notorious Republican retweeted a Twitter post made by Mark Levin, a conservative radio talk host, that slammed New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a “barely literate moron” over her recent remarks targeting billionaires.

On Monday, January 20, while speaking with author Ta-Nehisi Coates on the occasion of Martin Luther King Jr Day, Ocasio-Cortez or “AOC” as she is popularly called, said nobody makes a billion dollars, but takes them. “You made that money off the backs of undocumented people. You made that money off the backs of black and brown people being paid under a living wage. You made that money off the backs of single mothers and all these people who are literally dying because they can’t afford to live,” the 30-year-old self-proclaimed democratic socialist, said.

Cortez's claims were soon targeted as Levin linked a Fox Business article that reported about her claims, after tweeting, “AOC is such an embarrassing, barely literate moron," he wrote on Tuesday, January 21. Trump did his bit early the next morning.

AOC had taken on the system exactly a year ago

This is not the first time that the firebrand Democratic lawmaker has come under the scanner for her remarks on billionaires. It was on the same occasion exactly a year ago that AOC had said a system that allows individuals to accumulate wealth and become billionaires is “immoral”. Ocasio-Cortez was less than a month old as a lawmaker then.

“I do think that a system that allows billionaires to exist when there are parts of Alabama where people are still getting ringworm because they don’t have access to public health is wrong,” she had said then.

During her latest dig at billionaires, Ocasio-Cortez mentioned that she was not there to “villainize” billionaires or to say that they are “inherently morally corrupt”, her claims had left many in the audience in splits.

AOC has endorsed Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders for the Democratic presidential nomination and it has found her at odds with former secretary of state Hillary Clinton who recently made unfavorable remarks about her 2016 opponent.
