Former President Donald Trump was once again trolled after issuing a statement ahead of Joe Biden's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Biden is due to meet with Putin on June 16 in Switzerland. It is the first time US and Russian leaders will meet in the Alpine nation since Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev in 1985.

President Biden is currently in the UK for his first-ever foreign trip as POTUS, where he is attending the G7 summit in Cornwall. On Thursday, June 10, Biden and FLOTUS Jill spoke to American troops at the Royal Air Force Mildenhall base in Suffolk. Biden also held a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in Cornwall. On June 13, Joe and Jill will meet with Queen Elizabeth, where Jill is rumored to be engineering a truce between the family and Harry.

But all eyes are currently on Biden's June 16 meeting with Putin, including those of Trump. Late on June 10, Trump issued a statement slamming Biden and the Democrats, while talking about his "great and very productive" meeting with Putin in Finland in 2018. But that's not what got Twitter talking.

Trump trolls 'sleepy Joe'

Ever since the 2020 Presidential Election campaign kicked off, Trump has referred to Biden as 'sleepy Joe'. The former President slammed his challenger for his "low energy", and constantly made personal attacks throughout the campaign. The nickname can be traced back to a tweet on April 25, 2019 where Trump said, "Welcome to the race Sleepy Joe." That tweet was in response to Biden officially announcing his candidacy for President.

Now Trump indirectly referred to that nickname when he told Biden, "Good luck Biden in dealing with President Putin - don't fall asleep during the meeting, and please give him my warmest regards." It didn't take long for eagle-eyed Twitter users to note that Trump referred to Putin as 'President', but not Biden. Those two things seemed to be at the core of the trolling on social media, in reaction to the statement.

Apart from that, Trump also said, "despite the belated Fake News portrayal of the meeting (the 2018 summit in Finland), the United States won much, including the respect of President Putin and Russia." He also referred to Hilary Clinton, the 'Russia hoax', and former President Obama. But all eyes were clearly on Trump's trolling of 'sleepy Joe'.

'Trump lowers expectations' says Twitter

One user tweeted, "Donald Trump is a legend in giving replies. That last statement though on the eve of President's Biden meeting with Russian President Putin." Forbes reporter Andrew Solender tweeted, "Trump lowers expectations for Biden's summit with Putin: "Good luck to Biden in dealing with President Putin—don’t fall asleep during the meeting." Also reminding people about Helsinki."

One user slammed Trump and tweeted, "Trump's response tonight is the most petty and small I have ever seen. Deplorable." Another replied, "Pretty sure Biden won't fall asleep. Also pretty sure he won't come out of the meeting looking like a whipped dog, with Putin gloating."

"Trump is proud of being OWNED by Russia and letting Putin make him his bitch and talking crap to President Biden It's kind of satisfying seeing such a weak & pathetic president put out statements telling the guy that crushed him in the election not to fall asleep," another slammed.

Others also referred to the use of President for Putin, and not Biden. "He wishes Biden "good luck" on his upcoming meeting with President Putin. Important distinction," one person tweeted. Another said, "the creep writes “Biden” but it’s “president Putin”. Sniveling to the very end and for what? Putin has moved away, as he always does when the “useful idiot” is no longer useful." One user simply gave the hashtag "#PutinsB***h" with a photoshopped pic of Trump and Putin.

While the whole world is eagerly waiting for the meeting, the White House has already played down the summit. Jen Psaki told ABC on June 10, "We're not expecting to have a huge outcome from this." According to Psaki, the main goal is to get back "to a more stable and predictable relationship." Biden is expected to confront Putin over the recent cyberattacks on American infrastructure, and could also push for action to release jailed opposition leader Alexy Navalny.
