President Donald Trump, on Thursday, April 16, slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, calling her a "poor leader," and "the reason America hates career politicians." Trump's statement came shortly after Pelosi criticized the White House's response to combat the ongoing coronavirus crisis in the country.

Trump took to Twitter on Thursday, writing: "Crazy Nancy Pelosi, you are a weak person. You are a poor leader. You are the reason America hates career politicians, like yourself." The Republican also tagged Fox News host Sean Hannity in his tweet, who had also criticized Pelosi a night before.

"She is totally incompetent & controlled by the Radical Left, a weak and pathetic puppet," Trump continued. "Come back to Washington and do your job!”

Pelosi, earlier this week, sent a letter to her House Democratic colleagues, denouncing the president for his coronavirus response, as she wrote that the Republican leader "dismantled the infrastructure handed to him which was meant to plan for and overcome a pandemic, resulting in unnecessary deaths and economic disaster." The House Speaker was referring to a pandemic response team under the Obama administration, which was taken down by Trump after he assumed office.

Pelosi also said that they "must first understand the truth of what has put us in this position." She continued that the president "was warned about the pandemic” in January, “ignored those warnings” and “took insufficient action and caused unnecessary death and disaster."

"The truth is because of an incompetent reaction to this health crisis, the strong economy handed to Donald Trump is now a disaster, causing the suffering of countless Americans and endangering lives,” Pelosi wrote. “The truth is a weak person, a poor leader, takes no responsibility. A weak person blames others.”

Shortly after President Trump announced on Tuesday, April 14, that he would suspend funding to the World Health Organization (WHO), Pelosi slammed his decision. "This is another case, as I have said, of the president’s ineffective response, that ‘a weak person, a poor leader, takes no responsibility. A weak person blames others,’” she said hours after his decision. "This decision is dangerous, illegal and will be swiftly challenged."

After Trump's unprecedented decision to freeze WHO funds amid a pandemic, some House Democrats raised the possibility that the president may have broken the law with his latest decision.

A spokesperson for the House Appropriations Committee, Evan Hollander, in a statement to Politico, said, "In a desperate attempt to deflect blame, President Trump is violating the same spending laws that brought about his impeachment."

"The president does not have the unilateral authority to withhold the United States’ assessed contribution to the World Health Organization,” he told the outlet. “Moreover, refusing to fund the WHO is a foolish step that only weakens international tools to fight this pandemic and future global health emergencies."

Trump stated on Tuesday that he was withholding nearly $500 million to the WHO pending an investigation into its handling of the coronavirus pandemic as he alleged that the world agency had played a role in  "severely mismanaging the spread of coronavirus."
