A record 69 percent of voters personally dislike Donald Trump, new poll finds
For those who thought Donald Trump will be a runaway hit in the 2020 presidential elections, a new survey has come up with some interesting revelations. The poll, conducted by the Wall Street Journal and NBC News, revealed 69 percent or more than two-thirds of American voters do not like the incumbent president personally regardless of his policies.
The survey included 900 registered voters polled earlier in September. According to the survey, 53 percent of the respondents do not approve of his performance in office and 46 percent strongly disapprove of it.
About his support base, 45 percent of the voters approve of him (Barack Obama and Bill Clinton also had similar ratings at this point in their respective presidencies) while 33 percent strongly approve him. Of the 69 percent who personally dislike Trump, 50 percent don’t like either him or his policies while 19 percent like his policies even if they don’t like him personally.
Trump worst among last six presidents
In comparison with his predecessors, Trump fares worst in terms of approval. George H. W. Bush was disliked both as an individual and policy-maker by 12 percent of the voters while for Obama, it went up to 31 percent. For Bill Clinton, it was 27 percent and George W Bush, 38 percent. For Ronald Reagan, it was 25 percent.
The voters are, however, excited about Trump running for his second term in 2020. While 26 percent of the voters said they are enthusiastic about the Republican’s re-election bid, only 17 percent said the same about Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, who is leading the race among the presidential aspirants from her own party, according to the survey.
49 percent 'very uncomfortable' with Trump campaign
There is also a high percentage of people who are "very uncomfortable" with the election campaigns of either Trump or Warren. While 49 percent say the same about the president (though down from 52 percent in June), it is 33 percent in case of Warren, along with Joe Biden (up from 24 percent in March). 41 percent say they are "very comfortable" with Bernie Sanders’ campaign.
The rate of personal dislike for Trump is indeed high but the low confidence over some of the leading candidates in the Democratic camp should comfort his supporters.
