Will Trump 'defeat' Lisa Murkowski in Alaska? Ex-POTUS' campaign call dubbed 'truly epic and necessary troll'
Former President Donald Trump on Saturday, March 6 said he plans to campaign against Senator Lisa Murkowski in Alaska next year, intensifying his pledges to oppose GOP lawmakers who voted against him. Murkowski is one of the seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial last month, and the only one of the seven to face reelection in 2022.
"I will not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great State of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski," the former president said in a statement reported by Politico. "She represents her state badly and her country even worse. I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be — in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator."

Not the first threat
This was not the first time Trump threatened to campaign against Murkowski. He had made a pledge to do so in a series of critical tweets in June last year. However, his attacks on Republican incumbents are another example of the sharp divide between the establishment wing of the party, represented by people like Murkowski and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and the Trump wing in the wake of his presidency.
During Trump's first public speech since leaving office, at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) late last month, he called Murkowski and other Republicans who backed impeachment "grandstanders" and "Republicans in name only," or "RINOs." Kentucky Republican McConnell, however, committed that Senate Republicans will support Murkowski regardless of Trump's actions, adding the National Republican Senatorial Committee would 'absolutely' back Murkowski.
'A truly epic and necessary troll'
"Trump said he's going to Alaska to campaign against Lisa Murkowski. Alaska has told him to wear orange so he won't be mistaken for an animal....oh wait," said a tweet. "Trump is going to love flying back and forth to Alaska!" said another, insinuating the former president's dislike for long hours of air travel. "Trump possibly traveling to Alaska to campaign against Murkowski is a truly epic and necessary troll," quipped a Twitter user. "Let's send them to the Alaska wilderness, Trump included, with no mosquito repellent. I've been there. The joke is that the mosquito is Alaska's state bird. They shouldn't mind all that much - Alaska is a "red" state," said another.
Many didn't seem to think this was news. "I don’t give a shit about what a twice-impeached, failed reality TV show president who incited an insurrection against the government says or thinks. #Alaska #Trump #LisaMurkowski".

'Fire every single Republican'
Some people were not happy with Murkowski either, and called her a failed leader. "Lisa Murkowski has failed the great people of Alaska. She is the worst Senator by far. Even worse than Romney. The people of Alaska deserve and will get better in 2022," said a tweet. "So Murkowski got her amendment into the bill and also got some goodies for Alaska, and still voted no? This is why people hate politics," said another.
Another Twitter user opined, "Lisa Murkowski betrayed Alaska with her no vote on the package despite the bill changing to benefit her state. This proves that Republicans were only working with us so they can vote against us. In 2022 we must remember there names and fire every single Republican."
