On Sunday, November 22, evening, President Donald Trump’s legal team members — Rudy Giuliani, Attorney for President Trump, and Jenna Ellis, Trump Campaign Senior Legal Adviser and Attorney for President Trump — issued a formal statement on the official website, which read: “Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own. She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. She is also not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity.”

Powell represents former national security adviser Michael Flynn. She even participated in a press conference with Giuliani last week, yet again alleging voter fraud. As reported by MEAWW, Powell had alleged that, “We have evidence that this came from Venezuela, from Nicolas Maduro, from Hugo Chavez, from Cuba, and from China which has significant interests in Venezuela.” She added, “We have no idea how many Democratic officials paid to have the election rigged in their favour. This is a massive, well-coordinated effort. It is the 1775 of our generation and beyond.”

Powell had further stated, “There should never be another election - I don’t care even for dog catcher - in this country using machines by Dominion and Smartmatic.” She also insisted, as quoted by AP, “The Dominion Voting Systems, the Smartmatic technology software, and the software that goes in other computerized voting systems here as well, not just Dominion, were created in Venezuela at the direction of Hugo Chavez to make sure he never lost an election after one constitutional referendum came out the way he did not want it to come out.”

Before the conference, she had also, in an interview to Fox News, had said that she has "staggering" statistical evidence and testimony to show how Dominion voting machines altered ballots. This deception stems back to Venezuela, Cuba and China. Then, she said, "I'm going to release the Kraken," a phrase that immediately started to trend on Twitter. The Kraken is a legendary cephalopod-like sea monster of gigantic size in Scandinavian folklore. The phrase "release the Kraken" is from the 2010 movie 'Clash of the Titans' where the monster is featured as a weapon of the Olympian Gods. In modern terms, the phrase "release the Kraken" also means to kick someone's a** or to take a dump.

On November 14, Trump himself had tweeted that Powell was part of his legal team. He had said, “I look forward to Mayor Giuliani spearheading the legal effort to defend OUR RIGHT to FREE and FAIR ELECTIONS! Rudy Giuliani, Joseph diGenova, Victoria Toensing, Sidney Powell, and Jenna Ellis, a truly great team, added to our other wonderful lawyers and representatives!”

The campaign has not yet provided any explanation for suddenly distancing itself from Powell.

Soon, the word ‘Kraken’ and Powell began trending on Twitter and netizens weighed in on the incident. Actor and author George Takei said, “I guess the Trump campaign has released the kraken. Her name was Sidney.” Another commented, “The MAGA regime is pretending Sydney Powell never represented them, so needless to say that she was fired. The Kraken was defeated before it was ever released.” One opined, “If #SidneyPowell isn't on Trump's legal team anymore then he should call it quits and move-on since everyone was counting on her promises of a Trump victory to come to fruition. She was the literal #Kraken of hope for all #Trump supporters.”

A user joked, “She was gonna release the kraken. She then became the kraken.” One user questioned, “What in the world? First President Trump said Sidney Powell was among his 'wonderful' lawyers. Now suddenly, Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis say the high-profile attorney is not part of Trump's legal team to prove the election was stolen.”
