Trump's Madame Tussauds wax figure, garbage bags put in dumpster before Election Day as ‘preparatory measure’
Madame Tussauds in Berlin decided to take some unusual pre-emptive measures before November 3. They wheeled the figure of Trump, 74, off its show floor as an apparent "preparatory measure" in case he does not win a second term following Election Day in the U.S. "Today’s activity is rather of a symbolic character ahead of the elections in the United States," the museum marketing manager Orkide Yalcindag said in a statement to Reuters. Yalcindag added, "We here at Madame Tussauds Berlin removed Donald Trump’s wax work as a preparatory measure."
According to footage obtained by Reuters, Trump's wax figure was dumped into a giant trash bin along with signs that read "Fake News!" "I love Berlin," and "You are fired!" — which is a reference to Trump's catchphrase from 'The Apprentice'.
There were many other trash bags, which followed the wax figure in the bin. There was also a large sign that read "Dump Trump Make America Great Again", attached to the trash bin, and employees placed a red MAGA hat among the trash bags.
The American Madame Tussauds has not yet followed suit.
Trump has been trailing Democratic rival Joe Biden in national opinion polls for months, partly because of widespread backlash of his handling of the coronavirus pandemic sweeping Europe and the United States. However, recent polls have shown him gaining ground in a handful of key states.
Meanwhile, Trump’s presidential campaign has reportedly scrapped plans for him to attend a party at his Washington, D.C., hotel on election night. His family said the change was simply part of a possible relocation to the White House instead. Asked about a report in The New York Times that the president would be canceling his planned attendance at an already-promoted party, the president's son Eric Trump told 'Fox & Friends' on Friday that they were just looking to moving the event. "No, we're thinking about moving it actually, over to the White House," Eric said. "We're looking at that right now. It's going to be a great night. It's going to be a really beautiful night. I'm really excited."
Asked about his plans on Friday morning outside the White House, Trump told reporters, "We haven’t made a determination." In D.C., according to COVID-19 regulations, events can have no more than 50 people in attendance, with groups of no more than six being seated at least six feet apart. The president has openly mocked following public health guidelines around slowing the virus, however. He mentioned that many of his plans were limited by local regulations being enforced amid the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. "We have certain rules and regulations. You know, Washington, D.C., is shut down. The mayor has shut it down. So we have a hotel; I don’t know if it’s shut -- if you’re allowed to use it or not, but I know the mayor has shut down Washington, D.C. And if that’s the case, we’ll probably stay here or pick another location," Trump said. "I think it’s crazy Washington, D.C., is shut down. Can you imagine?"
