President Donald Trump has got planning permission to build a second golf course on his massive estate in Scotland. It has been reported that a new 18-hole course had been approved by the Aberdeenshire council on Friday, October 16, despite legal objections. Trump's new golf course will be named MacLeod in honor of his Scottish mother Mary Anne MacLeod and will be built close to the original Trump international golf resort on his Menie estate that opened in 2012.

Trump does not have any direct involvement with his businesses post as he stepped back and handed over the reins to his family. However, he frequently visits his properties and had gone to his other Scottish resort at Turnberry along with his son Eric and his wife Melania in 2018.

He also often plays golf at his courses and stayed at his properties, including Mar-a-Lago in Florida. Should Trump lose the upcoming November elections, it is not known whether he will return to running his businesses as head of the Trump organization.

According to Scottish officials, Trump's new development will be subject to a few conditions such as measures to minimize flooding at the site and safeguarding birds. The area of land had already been marked as the Trump Estate for development plans.

It is set to have two 18-hole golf courses with a 450 room hotel, a conference center and a spa. It also aims to have 36 golf villas, 950-holiday apartments in four blocks and around 500 houses for the community. The new course would be sharing the clubhouse and other facilities serving Menie but will add 141 parking spaces.

Many social media users have slammed Trump for the decision. One user shared, "Of course I knew that the “genius” was “donating” his salary. Are you that gullible, his “business model” has bankrupted 6 companies. It’s a BS donation, deflecting from the fact he uses his hotels and golf courses to gouge our country out of millions. Why no tax info? Think!"

Another outraged social media user had added, "You are a failed businessman and laugh track of a president. But we actually have proof of you being an enemy of the people. Why don't you lose another mil on a golf course. Cheers to failure-in-chief."

"Your attacks on Joe Biden are not going to work. We have seen the man that he is a man who truly does love this country & its people & not just because they praise his name. Your ego is the only thing u care about so we’re going to send you and your ego back to your golf course," shared yet another social media user.

Besides social media users, many environmental campaigners also slammed the first Menie course for partially destroying sand dunes in the area. They had also stated that the proposed second golf course could also lead to further erosion. While speaking to The Guardian, Bob Ward from the London School of Economics' Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change said, "They accepted the economic case over the environmental case."

"This decision gives a green light to the Trump organisation to further vandalise and destroy Scotland’s natural heritage," he added.
