Don Lemon says it's time to 'present the true identity of Jesus', Internet claps back 'but Jesus wasn't gay'
CNN anchor Don Lemon appeared on ABC's 'The View' ahead of the release of his book 'This is the Fire' where he spoke about addressing racism in America and about the Vatican's decision that the Roman Catholic Church cannot bless same-sex unions.
Speaking to Meghan McCain and the other hosts on the show, Lemon first spoke about how one needs to present the true identity of Jesus to really begin to address racism in America. He said, "We have to start being realistic about God and the Bible,” and continued to say, “If you are a person of faith in this country, and we know America is built on faith and religious freedom, a good way of starting is to present the true identity of Jesus."
He added, "That is a black or brown person, rather than someone who looks like a white hippy from Sweden or Norway. We should start with that and put that in your home, either a Black Jesus or Brown Jesus. Jesus looked more like a Muslim or someone who is dark, rather than a blonde-looking carpenter.”

He further explained the reason he wrote his book and said, "When your children ask you who is this, say this is Jesus. Jesus does not look like the popular depiction we have in our churches and our homes, and we see all over the media. That is a good place to start."
"That’s a good place that your kids will ask questions, and then you can go from there, and then we can — then we can come to a true reality about what America really is and then try to figure out how we fix this issue of racism in the country. It is a spell that must be broken," he added.
He was also asked about the Vatican's recent decision to not bless same-sex union because according to them God "cannot bless sin." To this, he responded by saying that the Vatican must "reexamine themselves and their teachings." He added, "I respect people’s right to believe in whatever they want to believe in their God."
He added, "But if you believe in something that hurts another person or that does not give someone the same rights or freedoms, not necessarily under the Constitution, because this is under God, I think that that’s wrong."
Melon got engaged to his boyfriend Tim Malone in 2019 and in this context, McCain asked him for his opinion. "God is not about hindering people or even judging people,” he said.
“And to put it in the context of race, I find that, you know, Dr Martin Luther King Jr said the most segregated place on Earth, time on Earth, was 11 am on a Sunday morning.”
He also told viewers, "So, I would say to the Pope and the Vatican and all Christians or Catholics or whomever, whatever religion you believe... go out and meet people and try to understand people and do what the Bible and what Jesus actually said, if you believe in Jesus, and that is to love your fellow man and judge not lest ye be judged."
In response to this, many on the Internet have spoken against the anchor. On user wrote, "Yeah but Jesus wasn't gay. For all we know. If he had been out and proud like Don Lemon is they'd be paying tribute to Muhammad right now."
Another user wrote, "Don Lemon? The dude who sexually assaulted some guy at a gay bar?" One user also said that he was not ready to understand both the sides of this conversation and said, "@donlemon Every battle involves two sides! Expecting someone to understand what you want them to when you're not willing to take responsibility for your misunderstanding. So sick of these race wars!!!!!!"
