‘Never eat Domino's again’: Internet cancels pizza chain over 8-year-old tweet thanking Kayleigh McEnany
Domino's Pizza, the American multinational pizza restaurant chain founded in 1960, seems to be the latest food joint to be canceled on social media. A tweet from 2012 sparked fury on the internet because the brand had thanked White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany for a compliment.
On November 9, 2012, McEnany wrote, "FUN FACT: @dominos is wayyyy better than any NYC pizza," and the pizza chain's 8-year-old tweet read, "@kayleighmcenany That's one heck of a compliment! Thanks for the love! #WEAPPRECIATEIT!"
Trump recently tweeted on his unproven conspiracy theory about a 75-year-old protester who was hospitalized after he was shoved by Buffalo PD and McEnany offered no regrets on behalf of the POTUS. This has not gone down well on social media.
The internet dug up her past when she called Trump "racist" and his comments "derogatory" and "hateful" in 2015 before she moved to the other side of the fence and emerged as one of his strongest supporters. She is being trolled for her volte-face.
Now that the 2012 tweet has resurfaced, social media is calling for a boycott of the pizza chain. The bizarre appeal soon became a trend and angry #BoycottDominos tweets were floating around in no time. "Ask @PapaJohns what happened when the embraced the white supremacy coming out of the @WhiteHouse," one said and another wrote, "This was a mistake. @kayleighmcenany @PressSec is a legitimately legendary liar."
Moreover, many bashed the pizza chain for being politically inclined. "Way to align yourself with a political party, Domino’s. Probably should have just been silent," one said and another posted, "Hey, @dominos. Been a customer for years and been having Domino's at least once a week. No longer. I cannot support anyone who supports liars, racists, and authoritarians."
One said, "I feel sorry for all your franchisees who are about to go out of business because of your thoughtless endorsement of this evil regime who gives to the rich, cages poor children, and cares not one piece of pepperoni for the 116,000 people they let die." Another upset Twitter user posted, "Well, last night was the last Dominoes pizza I’ll ever order." What's more, one blatantly wrote: "Mental Note #6,342: Never eat @dominos again."
Many, however, pointed out how nonsensical the tweet was. "Apparently, we're boycotting Dominos because of a Tweet from 2012. For what it's worth, I haven't eaten Dominos in years because they were supporting some 'pro-life' nonsense at one point. I haven't really missed them," one tweet read and another said, "Not #Dominos getting dragged for a tweet from 2012 y’all really got nothing but time." Mocking them, one said, "It took you a whole 8 yrs to finally get triggered about this 8 yr old tweet."
Many also tweeted in support of the food giant. "Why am I seeing so much dominos slander on my TL... I cannot and will not stand for it their cheesy bread is too fire," one tweet read and another said, "Man why are people trying to cancel dominos for accepting a compliment from someone back in 2012." One tweet compiled it together saying: "Twitter is the engine driving the Crazy Train, and the outrage over Domino's 8-year-old reply to Kayleigh Mcenany when she was probably still in college is the proof."
