Dolly Parton says she started making Christian music after God 'told her' to do so: 'My music is more my ministry than a job'
Country music legend Dolly Parton got candid on why she started to make Christian music.
The 73-year-old shared that she was nominated for many Grammys for categories such as best contemporary Christian music performance as well as her song for her collaboration with King & Country titled 'God Only Knows'. She had also received a nomination for her song, 'Girl in the Movies', from the 'Dumplin' soundtrack for best song written for visual media.
While speaking to People magazine, she revealed, "I’ve done so many things. And I see that I am in a position to help. People look at me like someone they’ve always known, like a mother or sister. If I say something good, people might listen. I’ve just felt like God was calling me into that. I’ve always felt like my music was more my ministry than a job".
"I just feel that this day and time, we need more people that are in a position to help to try to do something, if they can, to brighten the world a little bit. That’s what I’m hoping to do now," she continued. Parton has also worked on two other faith-related songs titled 'There Was Jesus' which she did with Zach Williams and 'Faith' in which she collaborated with Galantis and Mr Probz.
Parton recalled that Galantis had sent her the song in order to see if she was interested and she fell in love with it. "Now it’s out and people are really responding to it. It’s more of a dance song, as you know. But it’s a very spiritual message. It’s like God saying, 'Have a little faith in me'. So I was proud to be part of that whole thing," she added.
She also shared that she felt very blessed to be a part of all these collaborations given that faith-based music was something that she had decided to do in the last few months.
