Dog the Bounty Hunter's marriage proposal rejected by Moon Angell, they are emotionally intimate but that's it
Well, so that's been put to rest. After the viral preview clip where Duane "Dog" Chapman had asked Moon Angell to marry him incited online criticism, 'The Dr Oz Show' that aired on February 3 cleared the air.
Turns out the proposal was a way to end all speculation about any upcoming nuptials or engagement plans. After he popped the question on the show, Moon looked shocked and replied: "We're friends Duane. I love you as a friend." To which, Dog emphasized, "that's it."
Moon elaborated by saying, "I can't marry you" and said that "right at this very moment," she didn't see him as a romantic prospect. According to Dog, while he and Moon knew where they stood, he wanted "everyone else to know" too.
Rumors have been swirling around the duo ever since the death of Dog's wife Beth Chapman on June 26, 2019, of complications from cancer. According to Dog, Moon had been helping him overcome suicidal thoughts after his wife's death. "Well, I couldn’t stop crying,” he said. “I’m Apache, I wasn’t going to commit suicide with a gun or something. I was going to take a lot of pills because she left — Beth left all her big pills there."
Dr Mehmet Oz, pushing for clarification, asked, "You were going to commit suicide?” to which Dog, visibly emotional, said, "Oh, yeah,” and confirmed that he had Moon to thank for changing his mind.
Moon also spoke about how they had been emotionally "intimate". "It has to be intimate because there's a lot of powerful things going on with Dog," she replied. When Dr Oz theorized why it was easy for people to wonder if there was a physical connection in addition to an emotional one, she set the record straight. "Beth was my best friend. Duane is my best friend. I am not crossing that line."
They also cleared up the misconceptions behind Moon moving her clothes into the closet of his late wife Beth. "Here's what happened," Moon said. "When I got into the house, he would walk by the closet and bawl, and walk by the closet and bawl, and shut the door and then open the door. Then he would go in, I think this is pretty intimate, but he would smell Beth and he would go in there and sit down and cry and cry and cry."
At this point, she asked Dog to "take Beth's things out of the closet". "It wasn't a negative thing. It was because he just couldn't do it anymore," she explained. While Dog said he felt "relieved" after Beth's clothes were removed, he then started experiencing other emotions."I walked by and it was empty, and I'm like, 'Oh, God,'" he recalled. "I said 'Moon, put some of your stuff in there.' She said, 'No.' I said, 'Moon, it's an order.'"
Hopefully, having confirmed their platonic bond, they will have some respite from haters.
