'Does the alternate ending have the dog?': Fans curious as ‘I Am Legend 2' teases an alternate ending

Michael B. Jordan will join the cast along with original star Will Smith in 'I Am Legend 2'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'I Am Legend' starring Will Smith was a massive hit when it release 16 years back in 2007. The post-apocalyptic action thriller film helmed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman and Mark Protosevich, was loosely based on the 1954 novel of the same name by Richard Matheson. Regardless, as per the writer apparently the sequel of 'I Am Legend' is in works as of now. 

The Will Smith starrer prequel movie opened to the largest-ever box office for a non-Christmas film released in December and was the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2007, earning 256 million dollars domestically and 329 million dollars internationally for a total of 585 million dollars. It boggled everyone's mind as the film had only one actor  through out the entire film, however, this time around fans will also see 'Creed III' actor, Michael B Jordan in the new film along with Smith.

'We trace back to the original Matheson book, and the alternate ending as opposed to the released ending'

As per Deadline, the long-rumored 'I Am Legend' sequel is indeed on the way. Producer and co-writer Akiva Goldsman just signed a new deal with Warner Bros, and it’s one of two projects is 'I Am Legend 2' that he’s already working on (while the second one is 'Constantine 2' with Keanu Reeves). Michael B. Jordan will join the cast along with original star Will Smith in 'I Am Legend 2'.

“This will start a few decades later than the first,” Goldsman explains. “I’m obsessed with 'The Last of Us,' where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-30-year lapse. You see how the earth reclaims the world, and there’s something beautiful in the question of, as man steps away from being the primary tenant, what happens? That will be especially visual in New York. I don’t know if they’ll climb up to the empire state building, but the possibilities are endless.” He adds, “What Matheson was talking about was that man’s time on the planet as the dominant species had come to an end. That’s a really interesting thing we’re going to get to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text.”

'I still miss the freaking dog'

However, fans have one question, "will the alternate ending have the dog?" after this interview surfaced online. It was indeed very disheartening when the dog died in the 2007 film and some fans still can't "forgive" the creators for it. A fan said, "The alt ending I want is where the Dog doesn't die." A fan shared, "i still didn’t forgive them for what happened to the dog," while another adds, "I still miss the freaking dog." A fan questioned, "Is there going to be another Sam?" Lastly, a fan wrote, "Does the alternate ending have the dog?"

Safe to say, fans really want the dog back in the next film. However, there is no finalised release date for the film yet.
