A day after singlehandedly blocking the GOP from voting in favor of the $2,000 stimulus checks that were expected to be sent out as part of the Covid-19 pandemic relief package, Republican Senator Mitch McConnell, the Majority Leader, is trending again for putting his own interest before that of the country as Twitter was flooded with hashtag #MitchMcConnellHatesAmericans. For McConnell's actions, the GOP will be split the next time the bill is up for discussion.

President Donald Trump has been insisting that lawmakers increase the direct payments to $2,000 from $600, remove a legal shield for companies like YouTube and Facebook and investigate “very substantial voter fraud", according to a report in New York Times. This comes amid the crucial runoff election in Georgia and both Republican Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler have come out in support of the bigger stimulus checks.

However, with McConnell blocking the immediate vote in the Senate, the treasury has already begun sending out the smaller stimulus checks of $600 under the Coronavirus aid package. This is what has resulted in increased anger as the possibility of Americans getting $2,000 as aid has disappeared for the foreseeable future. This is despite the bill receiving maximum support including that of President Donald Trump. So the backlash on Twitter against McConnell is harsh and one user wrote, "Thought I lived in a democracy, where my vote counted and the government worked for me. Now ONE man, McConnell, a MILLIONAIRE refuses to send you...your own damn money when you're hungry, evicted, sick, dying. ONE MAN! #MitchMcConnellHatesAmericans." Another expressed, "Mitch McConnel is resting comfortably, taking a break from being sure his constituents don’t have enough money for food. His physician/man servant Cordell is seeing to his every need. Rest easy America. #RepublicansDontCare #MitchMcConnellHatesAmericans."

Some users also called out McConnell for his wealth and one of them wrote, "This what legalized bribery looks like. This man is worth 34 million dollars yet wants to ensure the American people get nothing. #MitchMcConnellHatesAmericans." Another user wrote, "You know what the 'saving grace' (if you could call it that) is that this would've been the one good thing Trump has done during this pandemic had this been passed. #MitchMcConnellHatesAmericans."

One user wrote how McConnell should be removed as the majority leader and wrote, "Senate Republicans could remove him as majority leader *immediately* and elect a new one. They're not only complicit, they're in charge. He's a lightning rod to attract all the attention while they loot and pillage." To this another replied, "You are absolutely correct. But that would require having a spine, heart or balls. They are all impotent, lazy a**holes." Another user wrote, "There once was man from Kentucky Who lived in the swamp where it’s mucky. The cock-block of the hill He just poisoned the bill To ensure that your check is still sucky. #MitchMcConnellHatesAmericans."

With the house controlled by Republicans and the Majority leader dead set against the bigger stimulus checks, what will be the outcome of the bill? We would have to wait and see.
