'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' opens the MCU up to a world of new heroes and threats. The mid-credits scene teases the arrival of Clea (Charlize Theron) as he enlists Stephen Strange's (Benedict Cumberbatch) help to fix the incursions he's caused in order to stop Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). The film ends with Wanda seemingly killing herself after she attempts to right the wrongs she makes.

The movie introduces a slew of characters in the MCU that includes Black Bolt, Captain Carter, Captain Marvel, Mister Fantastic, and Professor X, along with America Chavez. And while it does eradicate a major chunk of these heroes, it does show one more new personality who is all set to play a crucial role in future movies.

'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' mid-credits scene explained

The mid-credits scene picks up after Stephen Strange is revealed to have acquired the third eye following his tryst with the Darkhold. And when he's finally walking off on Bleecker street, a mysterious woman comes out of a portal and seeks his help to fix the incursions he's caused after using the Darkhold, and the sorcerer vanishes with her in the portal. "Can I help you?" he replies, with a confused look on his face when he sees the woman. "You caused an incursion and we're gonna fix it," she says, as she slices a hole through Earth-616's reality, which opens up a space-like dimension. "Unless you're afraid?"

In the comics, Clea (played by Theron in the MCU) is the Sorceress Supreme of the Dark Dimension. Her abilities include creating illusions and also telekinesis. Some versions also see her married to Strange and the brief scene does hint at a potential relationship between the two. With this, the movie also confirms that Clea will be one of the key characters as the MCU hurtles into Phase 5.
