Despite the ongoing civil unrest surrounding George Floyd's death, and an increase in the number of cases from the novel coronavirus pandemic, the US is trying to push activities to boost its economy, which has been hard hit, just like the rest of the world.

In one such move, it was officially announced on June 11 that the people in Orange County will no longer require to wear masks in public. Along with it, a list of businesses will also resume functioning as California enters the state’s reopening plan.

Disneyland will reopen following nearly three months of shutdown. Along with the theme park, Disney is also opening its hotels and the Downtown Disney District. The opening will occur in phases, with the Downtown Disney District opening first on July 9. Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, Disney Vacation Club, and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel plan to reopen on July 23, pending regulatory approval. Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks expect to reopen July 17.

This action from the government has caused an outrage among the public as Covid-19 cases continue to surge with each passing day. News regarding the reopening of Disneyland has also sparked an online petition to hold off the opening until the coronavirus situation curbs down.

Internet users took to Twitter to urge one another to sign the petition. One Twitter user wrote, “Disney is trying to rush the opening ASAP regardless of this global pandemic. This with the Orange County “masks are not required” is BS.  Sign this and help keep people safe. You already know Disney cares little for their employees and will try and open to max capacity ASAP."

“Orange County is full of a bunch of privileged d*mba**es. I feel bad for my ex-coworkers who work at Disney and have to deal with the mess to come” added another user.

Reacting to Orange County’s decision, another Twitter user stated, “How is Orange County not going to make face masks mandatory and then allow Disney to reopen...like it’s all good? People really think they’re invincible Skull.”

Although Orange County has relaxed restrictions for face masks, officials have stated that they’ll “strongly recommended” the public to work towards curbing the health crisis. Pointing at this one Twitter user wrote, “Sooo... Facemasks are "Recommended" in Orange County... just like "Don't be a racist" is "Recommended," in st*pid Orange County..."

Another user added, “Yesterday: “Disneyland is reopening!! Get hyped!!” Today: “Orange County is no longer requiring mask use. Also, Today: “Highest number of new cases in LA county since the beginning of the pandemic.”
