'Artemis Fowl' now has a new release date. The film was in the works for a decade and was slated to release this August 9, except now it has been pushed to 2020. The science fantasy adventure film is based on the first novel in the series of the same name by Eoin Colfer. According to IndieWire, the series was described as "Die Hard’ with fairies." The books center around a 12-year old criminal genius who kidnaps a fairy because times are tough and the Fowl family isn’t as rich as it once was — Artemis is more of an antihero tale.
Here's what we know about the movie so far.
After the endless change of dates, the new date is May 29, 2020
The movie premise reads: "The official synopsis of the film is as follows: "Disney's 'Artemis Fowl', based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer, is a fantastical, spellbinding adventure that follows the journey of 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he seeks to find his father who has mysteriously disappeared."
"With the help of his loyal protector Butler, Artemis sets out to find him, and in doing so uncovers an ancient, underground civilization - the amazingly advanced world of fairies. Deducing that his father's disappearance is somehow connected to the secretive, reclusive fairy world, cunning Artemis concocts a dangerous plan - so dangerous that he ultimately finds himself in a perilous war of wits with the all-powerful fairies."
Ferdia Shaw as Artemis Fowl II, Lara McDonnell as Holly Short, Nonso Anozie as Domovoi Butler, Artemis' trusted servant and bodyguard, Tamara Smart as Juliet Butler, Butler's sister, Judi Dench as Commander Root, Josh Gad as Mulch Diggums, Hong Chau as a fairy who can rejuvenate at will.

The first teaser trailer for Artemis Fowl offers a stunning glimpse of the worlds both above and below. In addition, we also get a first look at characters like Holly, Commander Root, and Foaly. The most impressive moment from the trailer is when an old woman transforms into a beautiful young woman (played by Hong Chau) with pointed ears. This scene also shows Artemis and Butler's first real experience in the fairy world.
