'Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story' Episode 3: Fans call Dan 'obnoxious piece of s**t', say he used Betty
Spoilers for 'Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story' Season 2 Episode 3 'Marriage Encounter'
The third episode of 'Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story' was the most infuriating episode of the USA Network series so far. Betty (Amanda Peet) and Dan Broderick's (Christian Slater) marriage is now beginning to fall apart after decades together and while Betty desperately tries to save it from doom, her husband seems like he is already out of there. The episode showed the degradation of Betty and Dan's marriage beginning from their friends' divorce as to how witnessing the downfall of marriage so close to them affected their own. In the beginning of the episode, Dan and his friends sit around a table discussing how to escape alimony by putting the money elsewhere. This beginning scene in particular angered fans.
"Husbands plotting to divorce their wives without paying alimony. Not exactly sympathetic characters. Establish a legal date of separation, they had this planned out. #DirtyJohn," tweeted one. "These low down #DirtyJohn 's discussing how to screw over a wife. #BettyBroderick" added another. "The fact that this men are sitting around giving tips on how to hide money is so low down," said one more. "I loathe this table of men #DirtyJohn," concurred another. The scene highlights just how men, who have gotten this successful with the help of their wives now seem completely unbothered with the entry of a much younger woman. "Betty gave up her life for Dan and did everything for him. He and Linda took a psychopathic pleasure in tutoring Betty. Linda was far from the innocent person ppl have tried to make her! Dan hired her to sleep w him. So much for being the vic!" tweeted a fan.
Seeing just how much of a role Dan had to play in this marriage to fail, fans have undoubtedly taken Betty's side. "Betty Broderick was crazy, but her ex-husband just did petty s**t to keep pushing her over the edge. Sad. She’s still crazy though...& unapologetic," wrote a fan while another wrote, "Watching the way, Dan used Betty during law school is making me wish I handed her the gun. Not sorry. He is an a**hole #DirtyJohn."
Meanwhile, Peet continues to receive praise for her work on the show. "I wasn’t sure if Amanda Peet could pull off Betty Broderick, but three episodes in and I’m hooked! #DirtyJohn #bettybroderick," tweeted a fan - all Slater's character receives is hate. "Dan Broderick was an arrogant obnoxious piece of s**t. I'm surprised Betty took so long to shoot him #DirtyJohn #Betty@DirtyJohnUSA," tweeted one.
