'Dickinson': Apple TV's version of the 19th-Century poet's origin story has Hailee Steinfeld as a teen rebel, Wiz Khalifa as a suave Death and more

The widely awaited premiere of Apple TV is scheduled for Friday, November 1, and with it, some of the most anticipated TV series is coming our way as well, starting with Hailee Steinfeld-starrer 'Dickinson'.

Narrating a fictionized story of the 19th-Century poet Emily Dickinson,  the show promises to be a funny, refreshing coming-of-age series that takes on society's problematic practices and beliefs.

We are certainly excited about this project, if you are not yet, fear not, because we have the top three things to get you excited about 'Dickinson'.

Steinfield as a smartmouth teenager

Emily Dickinson from this fictional universe is a reverential, young woman who stands up to the man, and questions the status quo at every given chance.

We know Steinfeld to have the star quality that makes her pop on-screen and 'Dickinson' gives her the perfect opportunity to make snappy remarks and generally be a smartmouth, all the while regaling us with her comedic timing and acting chops.

The lesbian love story of our dreams

The show focuses generally on Dickinson's life as a young adult but delves deeper than any work about her life into her relationship with her best friend/lover/brother’s fiancée Sue Gilbert, portrayed by Ella Hunt.

While there are no definitive documents concluding that the relationship between Dickinson and Gilbert was romantic in nature, it is widely understood that they were.

Teenage romantic angst, coupled with the taboo nature of such a relationship at that day and age makes for the perfect lesbian story we have been waiting for.

Wiz Khalifa as Death

Yes, you read that right, the rapper Wiz Khalifa plays a dapper, suave, and charismatic personification of Death in 'Dickinson'. He has a pretty bizarre relationship with Dickinson, and oftentimes we see them engage in flirty banter.

The showrunners seem to have literally adapted one of Dickinson's more popular works, 'Because I could not stop for Death', and we are certainly thankful that they did. Khalifa is a revelation in this role, and the character could not have been better cast.

Will you be tuning in to watch the premiere episode of 'Dickinson' on Apple TV+ on Friday, November 1?
