Spoilers for 'Devils' Episode 5

At the beginning of Episode 5 of 'Devils', on a Sunday morning, Dominic Morgan (Patrick Dempsey) is being told about the illegal ways in which Massimo Ruggero (Alessandro Borghi), the Head of Trading makes money for the bank. But not today, Dominic finds himself distracted - his wife Nina (Kasia Smutniak) has been missing with nowhere to be found. Dominic calls Massimo to ask him help for looking for Nina. She was supposed to take Ed Stuart's (Ben Miles) children to the pool, but she evidently hasn't.

In Episode 5, we follow Dominic and Massimo look for Nina as she, still grieving the death of her son, tries to escape her reality. In between this quest are littered flashbacks from the past detailing the characters' ordeal. But most importantly, we find out about Massimo and his wife Carrie's (Sallie Harmsen) relationship. Married early on, the vanity of their relationship begins to fade as Massimo becomes more and more involved in his work. So much so that Carrie ended up getting admitted with an overdose. This newfound strength in this relationship didn't last long. At one instance, at a party at Dominic's house, Carrie first reveals that she's off birth control and then has alcohol. Drunk, she makes a scene calling all the present bankers names amonf other things.

Shortly afterwards, the couple breaks up. The decision, interestingly, comes from Nina. When Carrie tells him that she wants to leave him, Massimo is hurt but also cares about his future. This is exactly what Dominic yells him at the end of the episode when he has Massimo over ahead they found Nina. It is revealed that Nina and Massimo had been intimate with each other (at least) once and thought they had kept it a secret. But the whole time, Dominic knew. A lot of 'Devils' makes sense now. And why exactly the show has been running around in circles is also revealed.

The financial thriller is, after all, a revenge drama starring probably the most vindictive of characters. It could also be said that Episode 5 is the best of the lot so far and plays out much better than its predecessors. While flashbacks had Massimo dressed in questionable fashion sense, his ambition remains intact as ever, unwavering even in the face of his wife. Today, several years later, he realises that this very ambition cost him everything. And as he lays still wanting to turn back time, his world comes crashing down. Episode 5 runs decently in comparison with older episodes so far where the premise only goes around in circles. While a lot about characters is revealed - we also find out about Dominic and his very strained relationship with his son - it might also be too late for audiences to even care about it.

'Devils' will air Wednesdays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW.
