Devan Schreiner's failed attempt to create alibi

The horrifying shooting took place in front of neighborhood mailboxes. According to the investigators of the Longmont Police Department, Schaefer died at the scene. "Did the baby mama do it?," asked the postmaster who arrived at the crime scene. According to prosecutors, the pair, who shared a young child, was involved in a dispute following the child's custody battle.

Locals in Longmont, who were shocked by the fatal shooting, told detectives they heard four gunshots and reported that a suspect in a hoodie was seen fleeing from the murder scene. Later, the surveillance footage showed the suspect's vehicle parked in the vicinity of the shooting scene, according to Law and Crime. Schreiner tried to create an alibi by telling the police that before the shooting took place, she returned to work after eating pizza rolls.

Devan Schreiner is 'cold-blooded murderer'

Following the jury's verdict and Schreiner's sentencing, Michael Dougherty, the Boulder-area District Attorney called the convicted woman "a cold-blooded murderer," reported CBS Colorado

The DA reportedly told the news outlet that Schreineder "took steps to get away with this brutal murder, but she underestimated two things. First, the victim was very much loved by his family and co-workers; the information and support they provided was critical," and added that "the US Postal Inspectors and Longmont detectives brought their best efforts and, along with our prosecution team, ensured justice was done. As always, we appreciate the time and service of the jurors."

The statement of Schaefer's grieving mother was read by prosecutors in court. They stated that since the murder of her son, she has not "slept". The statement conveyed that the lives of her family have been "destroyed forever" and stated that her grandson has now lost both his parents, reported 9News. The 7-year-old boy is currently living in Connecticut with relatives.
