Spoilers for 'Deutschland 89' Episode 2 'November Nights'

Midway through the second episode of 'Deutschland 89', Martin's (Jonas Nay) grandmother notes that she had lived through two regime changes - once in 1918 and the other in 1945 - now one can only be this flexible. But now in 89, the old woman blind in one eye is going to witness yet another change - the Berlin Fall.

Episode 2 of 'Deutschland 89' titled 'November Nights' follows Martin's struggle to keep his son Max (Ari Kurecki) safe as various agencies look to recruit the superspy. With the HVA up till their necks in trouble, they cannot be trusted to save Martin anymore. He is approached by different agencies pursuing him to join them. But Martin dodges them all staying loyal to HVA. But when Brigitte Winkelmann (Lavinia Wilson) visits him, he should consider taking that offer up. And so, Martin is left with three choices - "You get arrested or killed or get hired". He is reminded of these choices several times through the episode. And is eventually hired by the CIA.

Elsewhere, Lenora Rauch (Maria Schrader) is paid a visit from an old friend. Rose (Florence Kasumba) was hoping to talk to her in private, but could only give her a slip into the way out. And at the HVA, Walter Schweppenstette (Sylvester Groth) is sent on a new assignment. With espionage and German thriller at its peak, 'November Nights' is a fun, peppy follower to the opening premiere tonight. In this final season, Martin has joined new allies - whatever keeps Max safe and sound. Over the course of the following six episodes, 'Deutschland 89' will document the revolution that brought change in Germany.

But more importantly 'November Nights' is all things that sets the German espionage thriller apart - chase, drama, humour and the sense of impending doom. The soundtrack of the episode adds a flair to the overall performance. The possibility of romance on the horizon for Martin also is one of the highlights of the episode. Deemed to be his "partner in crime", Nicole Zangen (Svenja Jung), Max's teacher, expertly saves him from the Russians. Technically, however, Brigitte is back, so will this mean more chaos for Martin?

'Deutschland 89' will air Thursdays at 11 pm ET/10c on Sundance TV.
