DENVER, COLORADO: In a shocking hit-and-run case, a silver Chevrolet Cobalt reportedly rammed into a pair of scooter riders downtown around 1.30 am on Monday, September 7, in the left lane of Arapahoe Street, and left one dead, Denver Police Department reported in a tweet. "#DPD Officers on scene at 14th St and Arapahoe St on the driver of a vehicle collided with 2 stand up scooters resulting in a traffic fatality. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers, 720.913.STOP (7867)," their post read.

They shared another update from Crime Stoppers which read: "The Denver Police Department needs your assistance to identify the suspect vehicle pictured above that is wanted for vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death." The post identified the vehicle as 2005 - 2010 two-door, silver Chevrolet Cobalt, and also read that it was observed westbound on Arapahoe Street in the 1400 Blk at a high rate of speed, striking two people, running electric stand up scooters in the roadway left turn lane.

As per officials, one of the scooter riders was flung over to the sidewalk and declared dead. Meanwhile, the other one suffered serious injuries, police said. They added that the vehicle fled the scene westbound on Arapahoe Street to southbound Super Blvd, and away from the area. Cops said that the vehicle is said to have a damaged "grille, hood and windshield". Moreover, the covering to the side mirror on the passenger door is missing, as per the same post.

Soon, a string of tweets erupted on social media condemning the incident. "This is shocking. I hope this is priority #1 at the PD. Horrendous," one tweet read. Another user posted, "Those scooters are poorly lit and are a hazard when it is dark because they can’t be seen. I’m not surprised this has happened. I’ve had several zip in front of me and around me without regard to my vehicle while driving downtown." "Scooter riders don’t kill people. Your vehicle is the hazard. Please drive very carefully," tweeted another user.

As of now, there is no official update on the incident but social media has erupted with several tweets on how it could be a talking point for racism. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-7867 or TUI at (720) 337-1000.
