'Deliver Me' Ending Explained: Mehdi Bah gets falsely convicted for the murder of Bilal Ali
Warning: Contains spoilers for 'Deliver Me'
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN: 'Deliver Me; aka 'I dina händer' premiered on Netflix on Wednesday, April 24.
The five-episode series concludes in a manner that leaves viewers uncertain if justice was served or if the final verdict was unfair to Mehdi Bah (Solomon Njie) who was convicted for the murder of Bilal Ali (Yasir Hassan).
The Swedish drama begins with the murder of Bilal by his best friend, Douglas Arnfeldt Douglas Arnfeldt (Olle Strand).
The series then tells the story of the two friends in a non-linear narrative where Farid Ayad (Ardalan Esmaili) is trying to get to the bottom of the murder.
Farid is depicted as being close to the families of Bilal and Douglas and is determined to help clean up the city and ensure that children are not caught in the web of crime.
But is Mehdi Bah guilty of the crime? Will arresting him keep the streets clean? What happens to Bilal's family? Here, we address what happened at the end of the series 'Deliver Me'
Douglas kills Bilal in a fit of rage in 'Deliver Me'
When Douglas is arrested in the first episode, he alleges that Mehdi was the one who urged him to kill Bilal. However, as the story progresses, we learn that Douglas is grappling with depression for various reasons.
Douglas' father dies due to cancer and his mother struggles to find enough time for him. On the other hand, Bilal's mother is ready to do everything to protect him and guide him away from the world of crime.
Douglas and Bilal are supposed to meet and execute a plan made by Mehdi where they are supposed to throw grenades at someone. Bilal, disagreeing with the plan, disposes of the grenades and hands Mehdi's gun over to Douglas.
Douglas is intoxicated when they meet for the final time. Bilal tells him that he chose his family over Douglas, who responds by saying he would have chosen Bilal over his family. As Douglas is about to leave, he shoots at Bilal in an uncontrollable moment.
Mehdi Bah gets arrested for a murder he did not commit
Mehdi Bah is a local criminal who occupies a low position in the hierarchy and merely follows orders from those above him. While he is guilty of getting children involved with crime, he is not directly involved with murder.
Tusane Ali (Mohamed Abdirahman Koje) testified that he saw Mehdi give the gun to Douglas. In truth, it was Tusane who gave the gun to Bilal, who then passed it to Douglas.
Farid and his mother Leila Ali (Yusra Warsama) are aware of this fact from the start but still persuade Tusane to give false testimony.
Farid blames Mehdi for the death of both Bilal and Douglas while Leila wants to keep her family safe under witness protection.
However, it becomes evident that Mehdi was just a cog in the wheel, and the cycle of crime continues as more children fall into its trap.
Leila and her family leave Stockholm under witness protection
Leila and her family are now safe, and Farid makes sure that they are away from the clutches of the criminal world. The family has to move on and leave Bilal's father and other friends and relatives behind as they start a new life elsewhere.
Leila's character epitomizes a woman willing to go to any length to safeguard her family. As a single mother responsible for Tusane and her other children, she plays a significant role in preparing Tusane for his false testimony.
