Do you know this girl? Police release facial reconstruction seeking help identifying remains of child found near a field
Delaware law enforcement is seeking the public's help in identifying the body of a deceased child that was found last week in Smyrna, Kent County. According to a release by the Smyrna Police Department, the remains of an unidentified deceased child were located near the Little Lass fields in Smyrna on September 13.
According to the police, the child who is either Caucasian or Hispanic had been dead for several weeks or more. The child is described to have slightly wavy brown hair and was likely between the ages of 2-5 years old. "An anthropological exam of her remains suggests that she suffered from chronic illness(es)," the statement said.
Detectives from the Department worked with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for the investigation and have created facial reconstruction with the help of NCMEC Forensic Artists.
"As this investigation continues, we are still seeking tips from the public about the child’s identity and any possible suspect information. We ask that the public take a close look at these images and report any and all possible information on this case to the Smyrna Police Department, Crime Stoppers, and/or The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Tipsters may remain anonymous," they said.
The body was discovered after a man who was walking his dog saw the body, Delaware Online reported. Cpl. Brian M. Donner had also previously said that there was some evidence of a fire at or near the crime scene, "which is why we have involved the State Fire Marshal’s office in our investigation", he said.
