WASHINGTON, DC: Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison after being indicted by special counsel David Weiss on federal firearm charges.

The 53-year-old son of President Joe Biden was indicted on Thursday, September 14 in federal court in Delaware on three counts tied to possession of a gun while using narcotics.

The three federal firearm charges against the First Son include two counts of false statements on his gun forms and one of possessing a firearm while addicted to illicit drugs.

Combined, the counts carry a maximum of 25 years in prison and a $750,000 fine. This is the first time the son of a sitting US president has been indicted on federal criminal charges.

Hunter’s indictment came a few months after the collapse of his plea deal that would have averted a criminal trial and distracting headlines for POTUS, according to Fox News.

The move by Weiss is a significant escalation in his ongoing investigation into Hunter’s previous gun and tax crimes.

What does Hunter Biden’s indictment state?

Hunter’s indictment stated that he had been charged with lying about his drug addiction while making a gun purchase in 2018.

The first son bought a 0.38 Colt Cobra handgun in Delaware, where prospective buyers are compelled to answer a series of questions before laying their hands on a firearm, according to the indictment.

One from the 2018 application asks if the applicant uses or is addicted to drugs. The box is clearly checked 'no,’ according to the indictment.

Hunter previously admitted that at the time of the gun purchase, he was addicted to crack cocaine.

Video discovered on Hunter's laptop also showed him naked and brandishing a handgun in a hotel room in 2018, allegedly five days after buying the gun.

However, the gun was lost after his lover and brother's widow Hallie Biden found it 'unlocked' in his truck and threw it in a grocery store trash can. Its discovery sparked a police investigation.

After charges were brought against Hunter, his attorney Abbe Lowell condemned the indictment as politically motivated.

“As expected, prosecutors filed charges today that they deemed were not warranted just six weeks ago following a five-year investigation into this case,” he said in a statement.

“The evidence in this matter has not changed in the last six weeks, but the law has, and so has Maga [Make America Great Again] Republicans’ improper and partisan interference in this process,” he continued.

“Hunter Biden possessing an unloaded gun for 11 days was not a threat to public safety, but a prosecutor, with all the power imaginable, bending to political pressure, presents a grave threat to our system of justice,” he added.

The Right's reaction to Hunter Biden’s indictment

Republicans are certain that the indictment on gun charges is just the beginning of the investigation since they are convinced Biden’s son is guilty of even more felonies.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, (R-Ky), who is leading an investigation into the Biden family's business dealings, responded to the indictment by calling the accusations "a very small start."

"Unless US Attorney Weiss investigates everyone involved in the fraud schemes and influence peddling, it will be clear President Biden's DOJ is protecting Hunter Biden and the big guy," he continued.

Republican firebrand Rep Matt Gaetz also reacted to the indictment, saying, "Getting Hunter on the gun charge is like getting Jeffrey Dahmer on littering."

Reflecting on Hunter’s indictment, Fox host Jesse Watters asserted that “Democrats have run on gun control for decades, and now that Hunter Biden has been charged with gun crimes, Democrats don't care as long as it doesn't hurt Biden's re-election.”

He continued, “This gun case will be dragged out until after the election, allowing the attorney general to say he can't talk about ongoing investigations and allow Hunter to plead the fifth if subpoenaed.”

“This is the only crime that doesn't involve Joe Biden, and it's the only one that's being prosecuted. Think about that. We're holding Hunter accountable. Then he'll just cut another deal after the election or get pardoned,” the host added.

Hunter’s indictment also garnered immense social media attention, where users demanded to arrest “all of them.”

“Convict them all!!!!” one user said, while a second wrote, “Impeach, Remove Arrest Biden Already.”

“I think Biden is faking dementia just in case he is charged with these crimes,” a third user fumed.

“So, now we lock up hunter, and then figure out the ties to Joe and lock him up too.... common sense,” another user asserted.
