Raeford, the small town near Fayetteville where George Floyd was born 46 years ago saw a people waiting in line, outside a church waiting patiently for their turn to enter in small groups for a chance to look at his coffin. A private ceremony has also been organized to take place later in the day.
"Black Power", "George Floyd" and "No justice, no peace," are some of the chants that were heard outside of the church when a hearse bearing Floyd's coffin arrived. It has been 12 days since George Floyd died after a Minneapolis officer kneed his throat and suffocated him. The country has seen huge crowds gathered in different cities to hold protests against police brutality against black people and the Black Lives Matter movement has in some places seen violence break out during protests as well.
The officer in question, Derek Chauvin, has been charged with second-degree murder after the state received heavy backlash when the former cop had initially been charged with third-degree murder. The other three cops who were involved in the incident have also been charged for their crime.
