'Deadwater Fell' Episode 3 will see if Jess Milner (Cush Jumbo) and Tom Kendrick's (David Tennant) one-time sex, while Jess was with Steve Campbell (Matthew McNulty) and Tom, was married to Kate Kendrick (Anna Madeley) is really the root cause of conflict between Tom and Kate, which resulted in one of the two trying to kill the other.

Steve learned from Jess in the last episode that she had had sex with Tom once. She confesses because that the one time gave her the feeling that she was being dominated and used and this bothers her too much.

Jess is also unable to accept that her friend Kate is incapable of killing her daughters even if she had learned about Jess and Tom cheating. Steve, is of course in for a shock, but Jess's statement helps the cops streamline the investigation and Tom becomes the top suspect for murdering his family by injecting them with excess amount of insulin.  Coincidentally, Steve also finds a witness who claims that the little girl who had pine needles on her feet was running away from home just minutes before the fire and she was dragged back by her father.

In the next episode, we will see if the witness pushes Tom to confess to his crimes or if she will continue to claim that it is Kate's doing. At the end of the episode, we also see the witness recall Kate dragging her daughter back even as he tells the cops that Tom had dragged the little girl. So if the witness is lying, does that mean Tom is not the murderer. While Kate did suffer from depression and was going through treatment for the same, she couldn't have been pushed to take the life of her daughters along with Tom as well. The motive if any is only enough to explain Tom being targeted.

Will Steve be able to pin the crime on Tom and would that be personal vendetta? After all, he is clearly unhappy with Jess at the moment for having cheated on him. So he could very well be trying to frame Tom as a way to exact revenge for betraying his confidence as a best friend as well. Also, there is something about Tom that doesn't seem right.

For instance, the reason why Jess really began to become suspicious of Tom was after she met one of Kate's friends, Sasha, from the teacher's training at Kate's funeral. Sasha revealed to Jess that Tom had manipulated her into giving in and having sex with him. Jess had also heard about Sasha from Kate, who had told her that Sasha used to be her close friend. Jess finds it strange that Tom did something similar to her as well. With both Kate and Tom being plausible murderers, the upcoming episode may just throw light on the past and present in order to find out the truth.

New episodes of 'Deadwater Fell' will air on Mondays on Acorn TV.
