Nick McGlashan death: 'Deadliest Catch' star told best friend ‘love you brother’ days before he was found dead
'Deadliest Catch' star Nick McGlashan reportedly spoke to his best friend days before he died and the last words he told him was “Love you Brother”. The 33-year-old died on Sunday, December 27, at a Holiday Inn in Nashville, Tennessee and evidence found at the scene suggested that his cause of death was a drug overdose, according to police, who also mentioned that first responders arrived at the scene on West End Avenue at 12.30 pm in "regard to a man who had been found unresponsive by a friend in one of the hotel rooms."
An official statement from police said, “The individual, Bruce McGlashon, age 33, was deceased upon arrival of paramedics and officers [sic]. The death is unclassified at present pending a report of autopsy findings from the Medical Examiner’s Office. Evidence indicated the possibility of drug involvement. Toxicology testing is part of the autopsy process."
Nick’s fellow cast member, Landon Cheney, said that days before he was found dead they talked to each other. “I spoke to him a couple of days before he passed away and we were talking about how excited we were to grind away at another season. Our last words to each other were 'Love you Brother.' He and I had an unmatched bond. I'm completely shook right now,” Cheney told The Sun.
He added, “Mahlon [Reyes] died this summer, and now Nick. We were all brothers, best friends such a tight bond, this [has] rocked my world." Cheney also discussed the father-of-two’s addiction struggles as he said, “He introduced me to the sober life four years ago. He has struggled since but in his high points during that time, he helped a lot of people. He loved helping others and teaching others how to be a better version of themselves when he was doing well."
Nick joined ‘Deadliest Catch’ in 2013 and did 78 episodes of the show since. But in some parts of season 13, he was not seen because of his substance abuse problems. In September 2016, he even took the help of a rehabilitation center and was sober since then. The reality star also shared about "trauma" in his final tweet. "Trauma be making me fall asleep randomly. It also wakes me up randomly. Navigate carefully," he posted on December 10.

Some of his friends also spoke to The Sun after the tragedy. One of them, who chose to be anonymous, said, “There is a lot of drama surrounding his death and there is an investigation ongoing. It's all pretty rough right now. We fear something may have happened and he slipped up in Nashville. He was a great guy and this is a tragedy." While another friend said there were rumors that Nick was relapsing and a probe was ongoing. Nick’s cast member Clayton Gore said, “He was happy as usual, in great spirits. He told me he was excited to start the season and couldn't wait to see me. I believe he was seeing a friend, that's what he told me the night he was flying out of Seattle. I hear there is an investigation. Nick was the biggest motivator in the sober community. He helped me find the sober life. He wanted to help and pick up anyone that wanted to be sober. He was the light in the darkness for people."
