DC's 'Legends of Tomorrow' Season 5: Release date, plot, trailer and all you need to know about The CW show
They've been the unsung heroes of the Arrowverse for four long seasons but now DC's 'Legends of Tomorrow' is returning to The CW with a Season 5 that looks like it might just take them right to the top. Like them or loathe them, the Legends are returning for a fifth season that will also be the last time we see Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford on the show.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming season:
Release date
The 'Legends of Tomorrow' season 5 premiere is scheduled for January 21 but fans will actually get an episode of 'Legends' before that as part of 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'. That episode, 'Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part 5', will arrive on January 14 on The CW.
Plot
In Season 5, the show will be combining a mostly magic-driven plotline with a touch of metafiction. It's going to be a brand new world in the wake of 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' and it is apparently going to be a brand new timeline as well. After Zari (Tala Ashe) changed time to bring her brother, Behrad (Shayan Sobhian), back to life, the timeline of the Legends has been altered. History is filling up with time blips, and it's up to the Legends to deal with them, right after they deal with their new celebrity lifestyles. Unfortunately, they're also going to have to deal with the newly resurrected Rasputin.
"LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION — Sara (Caity Lotz), Ray (Brandon Routh) and Mick (Dominic Purcell) are shocked to discover that the Legends have become famous. It seems that everyone except Sara is loving the spotlight, so much so that they invite a documentary crew onboard the Waverider to film them as they investigate a strange new blip in the Timeline. The Legends discover that their new problem is none other than Rasputin, who happens to come straight out of hell, and it might be tougher than they thought. Meanwhile, Constantine (Matt Ryan) thinks he knows the reason behind these new blips and informs the team that it won’t be easy to defeat."
Cast
Caity Lotz
Sara Lance / White Canary, the captain of the Waverider, is all set to return and judging from the first episode's synopsis, it looks like she's going to have a rather complicated time this season. Lotz, who plays the character, is one of the most popular actors in the Arrowverse. Her other notable works include 'Mad Men', 'Death Valley', and 'Annie in aThe Pact'.
Other cast members for the season include Nick Zano as Nate Heywood, Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Amaya Jiwe, Tala Ashe as Zari Tomaz, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer, Matt Ryan as John Constantine, Jes Macallan as Ava Sharpe, Olivia Swann as Astra Logue, Courtney Ford as Nora Darhk, and Ramona Young as Mona Wu.
Deadline reports that Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford will be leaving the show as series regulars this season so fans can hopefully expect their characters to play major roles in the season's story.
Creators
'Legends of Tomorrow' was developed by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Phil Klemmer, and Andrew Kreisberg.
Trailer
The first trailer for the upcoming season shows Routh as the 'Kingdom Come' Superman and the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett), suggesting that the season may deal with some of the fallout from 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'. Apart from that though, it looks like it's going to be an extremely wacky season with the trailer showing many of the characters seemingly stuck inside TV shows. That's exactly the sort of meta-fun that makes us love this show and we can't wait for the new season to arrive on the air. \
A new trailer for the upcoming season was released on January 15. It shows the world post-'Crisis on Infinite Earths' with shots of the new Super Friends' chairs and declares "The Universe has it's noblest heroes.... these are not them." We get some new footage, including a first look at some of the evil historical figures who have escaped from Hell and who are going to be part of the main plot for the season. There's less than a week to go till the new season's premiere but we still can't wait to see it.
