In a time when the global box office is finally recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and working hard to get back that frequency, We’ve seen a recent string of hit films with 'Thor: Love & Thunder', 'Nope', and the recently released highly-anticipated DC film 'DC League of Super-Pets'. Whilst Marvel Studios' highly talked about fantasy adventure film ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ had been on the unbeatable top spot for the past several weeks in terms of ruling the global box office collection across the world, in a surprising new turn of events, as of this weekend, ‘DC League of Super-Pets’ has beaten the Marvel film ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ in terms of box office collections.

The animated Warner Bros Pictures film features ‘Krypto the Super-Dog’ voiced by Dwayne Johnson, and ‘Superman’ voiced by John Krasinski, as best friends. According to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo, the film garnered approximately $23 million in its opening weekend.

Whilst the box office is still coming back on track and recovering from the impact of the pandemic, an exciting scoop for the ardent DC fans here is that Warner Bros' most awaited fantasy adventure animation film of the year, ‘DC League of Super-Pets’ has debuted with an exemplary $23 million collection. With July at a close, we have seen a mixed palette of the box office.

Interestingly, for those who are unaware, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo, The total box office collection for the month of July 2022 came to an approximate figure of $1.13 billion, making it the first month to gross over $1 billion since December 2019 (pre-pandemic era) and not far behind a normal summer month from before the pandemic. Even when this should be seen as a positive and good sign for the box office as a whole, the summer slate came down from its peak position much faster than usual, with the last major blockbuster film being ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ which opened three weeks ago in theatres and has still been receiving rave reviews and accolades from fans and critics alike.

Even with the slow pace of the box office in the months ahead after July, which is a disappointing thing for a box office that had almost revived its lost charm and glory, for starters, we can say that this summer is not over as of now since ‘DC League of Super-Pets’ has debuted internationally with an astounding $23 million and has beaten ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. The Marvel film has slipped down to the third position after ruling the box office for three weeks with a $13.5 million gross collection this week.

The official synopsis of the film ‘DC League of Super-Pets’ reads, “In “DC League of Super-Pets,” Krypto the Super-Dog and Superman are inseparable best friends, sharing the same superpowers and fighting crime in Metropolis side by side. When Superman and the rest of the Justice League are kidnapped, Krypto must convince a rag-tag shelter pack—Ace the hound, PB the potbellied pig, Merton the turtle and Chip the squirrel—to master their own newfound powers and help him rescue the Super Heroes.”

Warner Bros Pictures ‘DC League of Super-Pets’ is currently playing in theatres worldwide.
