'Dark' season 2: Release date, plot, cast, trailer, and everything you need to know about Netflix's German series
'Dark' is a Netflix original German language series and the release of the second season of the show was announced on April 26. This is the first German series on Netflix, the first season of which had aired on December 1, 2017, and had been well received by the critics. Some have even compared the show to another original Netflix show, 'Stranger Things'. The complexity of the plot and the pace of the show were its highlights.
'Dark' season 2 will air on June 21 on Netflix. The show's premiere date was announced with a teaser video on April 26.
The show is based in the fictional German town of Winden where children have suddenly gone missing. This incident brings forth the secrets of four of the families - Kahnwald, Nielsen, Doppler, and Tiedemann families, their flawed relationships, their double lives and how the secret to the incident lies in a mystery that is three generations old along with the importance of the local nuclear plant. The show is set in 2019, but it flips between the past and the present - specifically 1986 and 1953 because of time travel.
Season 2 of 'Dark' will follow the journey of Jonas and the Stranger (who is believed to be Jonas Kahnwald from the future) trying to stop the time loop which is the root cause of missing children, the wormhole that opened up and everything that has gone wrong in Winden including officer Ulrich's brother going missing in 1986. Will they finally be able to stop Noah, the priest who is hell-bent on wanting to control time travel?
Actor Louis Hofmann plays the role of Jonas Kahnwald in the series. He is a high school student who is struggling to cope with the death of his father, who committed suicide.
Actor Oliver Masucci plays the role of Ulrich Nielsen who is a police officer and belongs to one of the families whose secrets are being revealed. He is Katharina's husband and father of Magnus, Martha and Mikkel.
The third important character of the show Charlotte Doppler is played by actor Karoline Eichhorn. She is the Winden Chief of police in the present.
Actor Lisa Kreuzer plays the role of Claudia Tiedemann and she was the director of the nuclear plant in 1986. This is the same plant below which exists a wormhole.
'Dark' was created by Baran bo Odar who is known for his film 'Who Am I - No System is Safe' and Jantje Friese who is a screenwriter and film producer.
'Dark' season 2's first teaser features the lead characters of the show facing death in different forms and different times. The triggers being pulled, the fear of what was and what will get the better of our favorite characters and what will the families do to fight back are all developments fans are keen to know about.
