CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Apple TV+'s latest sci-fi series 'Dark Matter' dances on the concept on multiverse with a mind-bending plot revolving around a physicist.
The series is led by Joel Edgerton who reprises the role of Jason Dessen, a Physics professor who is abducted by his alternate self and is pushed to another reality.
The key characters in Jason's life are his wife Daniela Dessen (Jennifer Connelly), son Charlie (Oakes Fegley), a good friend named Ryan Holder (Jimmi Simpson) and an old college pal named Leighton Vance (Dayo Okeniyi).
In Reality 1, Jason hasn't met Leighton in several years and their lives are no longer connected in any way.
However, in Reality 2, Jason is a well-known physicist and has built a box that could bring revolution in the field of physics. This has been possible due to Leighton Vance, who invested billions of dollars into Jason's experiment under his company called Velocity.
Why does Leighton Vance escape his reality in 'Dark Matter' Episode 4?
In 'Dark Matter' Episode 4, Leighton from Reality 2 is seen escaping his reality as he rushes into the box and lands in the infinite corridor.
He makes the impromptu escape as chaos heightens in his life. The cops are already investigating the disappearance of Jason and three other employees of Velocity. It is only a matter of time before they connect the dots and discover what Leighton has been up to at Velocity.
Meanwhile, his henchwoman, Dawn (Marquita Brooks) has killed Daniela in an attempt to catch Jason. And when Jason manages to escape again, leaving Dawn brutally injured, Leighton feels that there's nothing left for him in this reality and steps inside the box without the knowledge how it operates.
What's next for Leighton Vance in 'Dark Matter'?
Leighton wanders in the liminal space trying to find a habitable reality. However, he ends up opening doors to a post-apocalypse world, a mistake that Jason and Amanda Lucas (Alice Braga) also made.
While Jason and Amanda have cracked the functioning of the box, Leighton is far from the discovery. In the final moments of the episode, we seen him severally wounded as he opens the door to yet another inhabitable reality.
His fate hangs in air as he will continue to wander in the state of superposition until the magical drugs are exhausted and he has no more chances at switching the realities. With no access to food and water, he may die between realities.
His only chance at survival is Jason. If they manage to cross paths within the corridor and Leighton seeks help, he might survive the situation.
