'Dark Matter' Easter Egg sparks speculation of another Blake Crouch adaptation
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Apple TV+'s 'Dark Matter' has left a void among the fans. Starring Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, this mind-bending sci-fi series captivated audiences with its mind-bending sci-fi plot based on the concept of quantum mechanics.
The open-ended finale has left fans eagerly hoping for another season, despite Apple TV+ not making any announcement yet. That being said, fans may expect another television adaptation of a Blake Crouch novel in times to come.
'Dark Matter' Episode 7 hinted at another potential collaboration between Apple TV+ and Blake Crouch
'Dark Matter' Episode 7 titled 'In the Fires of Dying Stars' had a blink-and-miss moment hinting at what could be Blake Crouch's next major live-action project.
In one of the scenes, Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton) sprints down the street after leaving a bar in Reality 1. Amid the tension, a theatre marquee in the background lists three movie titles.
Two of them, 'Summer Frost' and 'Upgrade', are novels by Crouch. The third title, 'It's a Wonderful Life', is often compared to 'Dark Matter'.
We all know that Apple TV+ loves to explore the sci-fi genre and Blake Crouch offers the same. Both 'Summer Frost' and 'Upgrade' offer thrilling science-fiction plots set in dystopian worlds.
While the mention of 'It's a Wonderful Life' might be a subtle nod to 'Dark Matter' to avoid being too on the nose.
However, the inclusion of 'Summer Frost' and 'Upgrade' on the marquee could suggest that Apple TV+ is considering these novels for future Blake Crouch adaptations.
Both are standalone stories, so it's unlikely we'll see any of the 'Dark Matter' characters returning in these potential projects.
Will 'Dark Matter' have a Season 2?
Blake Crouch's novel 'Dark Matter' doesn't have a sequel which limits the scope of Apple TV+ renewing the television adaptation.
However, we can't completely rule out the possibility of Season 2. The show has been garnering substantial viewership which might prompt Apple TV+ to take the story forward.
As of June 2024, there has been no official confirmation on 'Dark Matter' Season 2. But we'll keep you posted as soon as there's any development.
