With hardly few more days left for its premiere, Netflix has released a featurette for the forthcoming 'Daredevil' season 3. It puts the spotlight on Wilson Fisk aka the Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), who plans to escape from prison, and his highly plotted revenge on superhero Matt Murdock played by Charlie Cox.
“The driving force behind everything this season is this idea that this man must be stopped once and for all, even if it costs me my everlasting soul,” said Cox, in the featurette. Since his defeat at the hands of the Daredevil in season 1, Fisk has been removed and replaced as New York's kingpin of crime. And, when he turns into a snitch to make the protection of his beloved Vannessa easier, who is also wanted by the federal government, Fisk gets out of prison.
The news of him leaving prison, calls for the protection of Murdock and his close friends Foggy and Karen. “Just the mention of Wilson Fisk is so frightening and sinister,” Cox said. “The character that Vincent created has become so iconic. To have him back is absolutely thrilling. It’s such a great rivalry between the two of us.” Erik Oleson, who is new the showrunner is also featured in the video and praised Fisk, who is the season's villain in a pearl white suit. “We see his downfall in Season One, now we’re going to see the return and the rise of Kingpin,” Oleson said.
.@WilsonBethel and I shot a lot of scenes together. It was always sometimes fun and sometimes emotional. “Since the first season, people have been waiting for it,” D’Onofrio added. “So they’re just gonna f—ing flip.” He previously also teased that this will be the season that will have fans blown away.
“We’ve already shot some things that are just going to be neat for the fans,” he said, in an interview with Collider. “There’s some awesome things that are very much in the history of Fisk and Daredevil, that people have been waiting for. ... I think they’re gonna be very happy." He even spoke of Fisk's character saying it is evolving. "His whole deal is based on emotion, so we’re taking him down that role further.”
'Daredevil' season 3 premieres on October 19 exclusively on Netflix.
