'Dare Me' Season 1 Episode 5 (USA Network)

Episode 5 of ‘Dare Me’ follows the day after the girls’ wild night out, which led Beth (Marlo Kelly) and Addy (Herizen Guardilo) to crash at the coach’s place. Addy wakes up to see Beth and Collete (Willa Fitzgerald) talking, unaware of the discussion. From there on, the episode takes us through three stories, each showcased from Addy, Collete and Beth’s perspectives respectively.

On their way back home, Beth seems irked with Addy for taking her to Collete’s house, the last place on earth she would want to see herself at. However, Addy explains that she had no choice but to do what she did. Upon arriving at school, a much-agitated coach is miffed with Addy and loses it further when she learns that the illegal party comprising her squad members had attracted the attention of the cops, ahead of the regionals, which they eventually get to.

Following the squad’s entry into the regionals, Collete decides to dedicate herself entirely to cheerleading. It also serves as a reason for her to avoid Sergeant Will, who Collete is upset with for allowing his fellow-officers to party with a bunch of minor girls.

Meanwhile, Beth is extremely traumatized by her time with Krutz, whose sexual aggression has not just left her with scars on the body but has also filled her mind with unpleasant memories.

For the first time since its inception, ‘Dare Me’ in ‘Parallel Trenches’ takes us through the less-explored sides to Addy, Beth and Colette’s persona. But what appealed to us the most was the flip in Beth’s character, which adds an edge to the series. She decides to stop partying, going out and only focus on cheerleading.

In the end when Addy asks Beth if she remembers the sleepovers the two used to have when they were younger, the latter coldly responds, “I remember everything,'' referring to the demons in her mind which are feeding off the dark memories.

Will Addy be able to help Beth get rid of the memories from the night which has clearly shaken her up? Or, will Beth finally learn to deal with life more efficiently?

The episode premiered on December 29 on the USA network.
