Rams vs Cowboys: Dallas fans rue bad OPI call and terrible play as team goes down 20-17, say 'nothing changes'

Despite the Cowboys blitzkrieg offense in the first half, they appeared to slow down post halftime. Add to this was the controversial offensive pass interference call that stirred up a debate on social media

The Los Angeles Rams were off to a winning start as they notched up a 20-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys in their 2020 season opener at the new SoFi Stadium on Sunday. Despite the Cowboys blitzkrieg offense in the first half, they appeared to slow down post halftime and ended up scoring just three points. Quarterback Dak Prescott had one more opportunity to put the Cowboys on top as he found receiver Michael Gallup down the sideline, except and an offensive pass interference call spoiled their play.

The OPI decision was controversial and didn't sit well with Dallas fans as they took to social media to vent their frustration. Along with that were a few plays by the team that came under criticism as well. "When are Cowboys fans going to stop making excuses and look at the facts. 3-12 on third downs. 1-3 on fourth. 11 minutes less of possession. Less total yards. Going for it instead of kicking a FG to make it 20-20. There were penalties missed or botched for both sides," read one of the comments.

The roasting just continued: "Cowboys finally play a good team and get exposed for the trash team they are. By the way, the Patriots are the best team in the NFL. They don’t need an all star head coach or a good O-Line to win games. Enjoy watching the New England Patriots dominate in January."

With most fans calling the OPI as the reason behind the loss, other fans pointed out a few things. "To all of the Cowboys fans saying that one call determined the entire game: did you watch the whole game? Lol there were so many missed calls that were in favor of the Cowboys. The replays even showed them, but yes continue to go off. Y’all only see what you want to see," a tweet read.

It looked like things were going the Cowboys' way when Gallup caught the long pass in the final minute and he was tackled on the 19-yard line, except he was pulled up for OPI. The official decision was based on how he extended his arm pushing off Rams cornerback, Jalen Ramsey before catching the ball. This call had Cowboys and the fans seething, but they couldn't do much as the Rams won two incompletions later.

Meanwhile, there were thoughts about the team's performance as well. "Dak is clearly not worth roughly the same amount it cost to build that stadium they played in but the Cowboys also got screwed with that late OPI call. Guess we can't have the mediocre prized pony losing in the new palace on opening night. #DALvsLAR #SNFonNBC #RamsHouse," read one of the tweets.

Some rued over how things never changed. "Same old damn cowboys nothing change. New coach nothing new. Same prescott didn't do nothing different. Only person that was different and better was ezekiel elliott that it everyone else idk wtf going on. Combs didn't do shit like wtf like top receiver really #DallasCowboys."

What are your thoughts on the OPI call? The Cowboys play the Atlanta Falcons next on Sunday, September 20.
