D23 Expo 2019: From 'The Mandalorian' to 'Agents of SHIELD', 10 things to watch out for at Disney's biggest annual event

The expo will be starting Friday, August 23, and will conclude Sunday, August 25. Fans in attendance will be treated to a lot of great panels, some important announcements and a first look at the future of Disney

The biggest Disney event of the year is here! The D23 Expo 2019 in Anaheim, California, will be bringing fans a lot of cool announcements and trailers about some of Disney's biggest properties including the 'Star Wars' and Marvel franchises and the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. The expo will start Friday, August 23, and will conclude Sunday, August 25.

Here are 10 things to keep an eye out for during the expo:  

'The Mandalorian'

Jon Favreau's upcoming 'Star Wars' spin-off series will be one of the first shows on the Disney+ streaming service when it launches in November. A trailer for the series will be released during D23 and a poster for the show has already been released online. There may also be more 'Star Wars' announcements on the way, including some details about the upcoming movie 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker', a sneak peek for which has already been released.

Marvel’s Disney+ shows

Fans can expect the Marvel Cinematic Universe to have a huge presence at the expo this year. With the announcement of the MCU's future slate during San Diego Comic-Con 2019, fans will be eagerly hoping to get new details about the upcoming shows 'Loki', 'WandaVision', 'What If...?', 'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier', and 'Hawkeye'.

'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series'

The upcoming Disney+ series has been described as "Not a reboot. Not a sequel. The start of something new." The show will have a special screening August 23 at 5:30 p.m. PT so be sure to catch that if you're in attendance. Disney has already released a poster for the show in preparation for the screening.

Hulu and Marvel’s ‘Adventure into Fear’

There are bound to be a few announcements about Hulu's future and Marvel fans will be hoping for new information about the upcoming 'Ghost Rider' and 'Helstrom' shows. Marvel TV has already teased that more shows may be on the way so we could also expect to get some announcements regarding those.   

'Lady and the Tramp'

Lady and the Tramp, a new take on a timeless classic, only on DisneyPlus. Start streaming November 12. (Instagram)

The classic animated movie will be the latest Disney movie to get the live-action treatment. The remake will be airing on Disney+ with a poster and a first look trailer already revealed. Keep a lookout for further announcements and possibly even a new trailer release.

'The Simpsons'

Springfield's First Family will be making its way to D23 this year to talk about the upcoming 31st Season. Creator Matt Groening, Executive Producer Al Jean, Executive Producer Matt Selman, Supervising Director Mike B. Anderson and stars Nancy Cartwright and Yeardley Smith will be in attendance and Disney has teased lots of surprises, including an exclusive Simpsons collectible item for all those in attendance during the panel.

Secret Walt Disney Company Project: 'One Day at Disney'

Ahead of the expo, Disney announced they would be introducing the world to a secret company project which was revealed August 22. 'One Day at Disney' is a collaboration between Disney Publishing Worldwide and Disney+ and the project includes a coffee table book, a feature-length documentary and a new series featuring the people who work behind the scenes to bring Disney's stories to life.  A poster and trailer have already been released and further details will be revealed during a panel for the project August 24.

Marvel Cinematic Universe Films Phases 4 and 5

With the recent announcement that Spider-Man will no longer be a part of the MCU, there are going to be a lot of questions going around about the future of the franchise. Fans will also be hoping to get some further information about how Phase 4 and Phase 5 are going to play out and about how the studio intends to introduce the 'X-Men' and 'Fantastic Four' franchises into the MCU.  

‘Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series - Episode II’ first look

The three-part VR experience created by ILMxLAB will be giving fans their first look at its second episode during the expo on August 23. The first episode was released May 21, on the Oculus Quest. The series was written by David S. Goyer, who had previously acted as a writer for Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight' trilogy.

‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

With the landmark show soon entering into its final season, fans will be eagerly waiting for plot details and announcements. While a trailer release is unlikely, we could still get some key information about how Marvel intends to conclude the beloved series.
