Cynthia Nixon accuses Joe Biden of 'courting hardcore racists’ with campaign ad about handling China
Actress Cynthia Nixon has launched a blistering attack on former Vice President Joe Biden's 2020 presidential campaign, alleging he courted "hardcore racists" after releasing an ad explaining how he would have better dealt with China amid the coronavirus pandemic when compared to President Trump.
Nixon's attack against the Democratic presumptive nominee came after New York State Assemblymember Yuh-line Niou described Biden's ad as “racist and xenophobic,” saying it ties in perfectly with Trump's "narrative" that China is responsible for mishandling and lying about the coronavirus outbreak, Breitbart reported.
Meanwhile, Nixon indicated the rhetoric in Biden's ad made her sick to her stomach.
“Who had Joe Biden put this hateful xenophobic ad up? Joe needs to focus on getting Democrats and Independents excited, not courting hard-core racists,” Nixon tweeted. “You won’t get them, Joe, and you’ll make the rest of us sick to our stomachs.”
The former 'Sex and the City' actress, who was an ardent supporter of Bernie Sanders' unsuccessful campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, is a rising star in the Democratic party, especially after running a rather credible (albeit unsuccessful) campaign to dethrone New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the 2018 midterm elections.
Being a left-wing firebrand, Nixon had similarly attacked former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg when his 2020 presidential campaign appeared to be gaining momentum in the weeks leading up to the Democratic primary. Writing an op-ed for NBC News in February, she railed against Bloomberg’s supposed misogynistic tendencies and said they made him "unfit" to become the nominee.
“We are not unified when we tell women to accept a candidate whose misogynistic comments rival those of his fellow billionaire currently in the White House,” she wrote at the time. “Unity means that we rally behind a candidate who sees us all and has a platform that creates the most good for the greatest number of us.”
China's government is already feeling the wrath of several countries after allegedly lying about the coronavirus outbreak that has claimed over 166,000 lives across the globe.
Most recently, the editor-in-chief of popular German newspaper Bild launched a no-holds-barred attack on Chinese President Xi Jinping over his regime's mishandling of the contagion as well as alleged human rights violations carried out by the ruling Communist Party.
In a scathing editorial titled "What China Owes Us", Julian Reichelt demanded at least $162 billion for Germany in damages as a result of China's actions.
"You, your government and your scientists had to know long ago that coronavirus is highly infectious, but you left the world in the dark about it," he wrote, addressing President Jinping. "Your top experts didn't respond when Western researchers asked to know what was going on in Wuhan. You were too proud and too nationalistic to tell the truth, which you felt was a national disgrace."
The journalist also stated that “surveillance is a denial of freedom. And a nation that is not free, is not creative," before accusing Jinping of making China "the world champion in intellectual property theft."
