'Crisis on Infinite Earths' Part 2 offers Kate a look at what life would have been if Beth had not transformed into Alice

'Crisis on Infinite Earths' Part 2 for the most concentrates on the Earths that the multiverse has lost after the Anti-Matter Wave hit, but the episode also shows that there is hope for Kate's sister Beth, just not on Earth 1
PUBLISHED DEC 10, 2019

In 'Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part 2' we see Kate Kane work with Kara Danvers to find the Paragon of Courage. This happens to be the Batman on Earth 99, and Kate, who is Bruce Wayne aka Batman's cousin is asked by the Monitor to find him and convince him to become a part of the fight against the 'Crisis'.

Of course, things do not work out as expected. Instead, she finds out that the Batman on Earth 99 has fallen into a pit of depression, without hope. When she asks him for help, he gives her a newspaper with a headline that speaks about Batman's reign coming to an end.

Without purpose, the older Wayne, portrayed by Kevin Conroy, shows Batwoman what possibly awaits her in the future if she continued on the same path. It even makes her wonder if she is really right in pursuing the vigilante life back on Earth 1.

That is when Kara, who was with Kate all the while sits down and convinces her that the life of being a superhero is beyond time travel and power. That it is not just about being able to fly but about the person behind the mask and the strength and perseverance they show in fighting crimes.

To instill some hope in Kate, that she had lost in the process of trying to convince Earth 99's Batman, Kara gives her a picture. It is a still of Kate and her twin sister Beth on Earth 99.

On this Earth, Beth did not transform into Alice. The picture shows Beth with a bright smile and this is something Kate hasn't seen on Earth 1 where Alice lives only to exact revenge against their father.

On this Earth where Beth and Kate lead a happy life, Kate is not alive anymore. Bruce explains that it has been a few years since her death and this could be the universe's way of finding a balance between what happens on different Earths.

Kate does feel sad that she herself could never experience the life that Kate on Earth 99 did, but the picture of Earth 99's Kate and Alice smiling instills a sense of hope in her.

She might have agreed to hunt Alice down for destroying the one family that Kate had on Earth 1, but it doesn't negate the sorrow something such as this would cause Kate.

Alice is a criminal, and that is all she has to be if Kate hopes to stop her back home and this episode teaches her to persevere despite tough circumstances. 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' Part 3 will air on Tuesday at 8 pm ET on The CW.
