'Crisis on Infinite Earths' could give Oliver Queen a happy ending instead of the hinted-at death

Ever since he left the island of Lian Yu, Oliver Queen has done nothing but fight to keep his city and his family safe. Though 'Crisis' is expected to end in the hero's death, there's a chance it could just give him a final happy retirement instead.

Most of the teases and hints we've received about 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' and the eighth (and final) season of 'Arrow' have led us to believe that Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) will be killed at some point in the massive crossover event. The Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) said as much in his last appearance in 'Arrow' Season 7.

However, there is another possibility, one that could give Oliver the happy ending that he has wanted for so long. In the comics, 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' brought all of DC's heroes and villains from across the multiverse in an epic war against the Anti-Monitor, who was defeated by the combined efforts of Kal-L (the Earth-Two Superman), Alexander Luthor of Earth-Three and Superboy-Prime.

In the aftermath of the battle, the multiple parallel worlds of the multiverse are condensed into one universe. As the only four who remember the past, Luthor then sends Earth-Two Superman, Earth-Two Lois Lane, Superboy-Prime and himself to a pocket "paradise" dimension that exists outside of the new reality.

LaMonica Garrett will be playing both the Monitor and the Anti-Monitor in Crisis on Infinite Earths. (IMDb)

If the crossover plays out according to the original comic book storyline, Oliver will probably be one of the heroes who end up filling the roles of Luthor, Lois, and the Supermen. In Season 7, the version of Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) from the year 2040 leaves with the Monitor to meet her lost husband. This could mean that Oliver and Felicity will get to live out the rest of their lives in an idyllic paradise - a happy retirement for a hero who has strived endlessly to find peace.

Not only would this give Oliver and Felicity a happy ending, but it would also bring things full circle for the Emerald Archer. After all, the Arrowverse began when Oliver left his isolated life on the island of Lian Yu to return to his hometown, then called Starling City. Seeing him finish his story by starting a new exile, albeit under much happier circumstances, would provide the hero with an ending worthy of his place in the history of the CW's superheroes.

The eighth and final season of 'Arrow' will premiere on the CW network on October 15.
