Princess Beatrice and her fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have canceled their upcoming summer nuptials given the coronavirus pandemic.

The couple had been due to celebrate their marriage with a lavish reception in Buckingham Palace post a ceremony scheduled to take place at the Chapel Royal at the St James Palace on May 29. The Buckingham Palace released a statement announcing that they were concerned about the pandemic and its uncertainty.

"Princess Beatrice and Mr. Mapelli Mozzi are very much looking forward to getting married but are equally aware of the need to avoid undertaking any unnecessary risks in the current circumstances. In line with government advice for the UK and beyond, the couple are reviewing their arrangements for 29th May," the Palace announced.

The statement, however, did not confirm until when the nuptials have been postponed. Princess Beatrice is reportedly "very sad" about the decision but feels that there was "no alternative" amid the COVID-19 outbreak that has brought the world to its knees.

According to a royal insider, Beatrice, 31, and Mozzi, 37, had planned to use marques and portaloos for their reception, reports the Sun. "The fact they won’t be available was a factor but the main reason is the safety of guests."

"There were only going to be 150 guests at the wedding but double that amount at the reception. It was just too risky. The Queen had to be there and it wasn’t fair to put her in danger aged 94. The couple are obviously very sad but they realise other people are suffering much more and they are philosophical about it," the source added.

Over the last few weeks, Mozzi has been tweeting about the coronavirus outbreak and aired his concerns for the elderly saying it was a good idea for supermarkets to open up just for the old people. A friend shared, "He is a very caring person and is being very supportive to Beatrice."

"Of course he’s upset the wedding is being postponed but the important thing is for everyone to stay safe and they are looking forward to having the wedding next year when hopefully things are back to normal," the insider added.
