Coronavirus: Bette Midler believes Trump is lying about testing negative, says he lied '16,000 times in 3 years'
Actress Bette Midler has once again floated sort of a conspiracy theory against President Donald Trump, this time accusing him of lying about his health following a White House announcement over the weekend that said the commander-in-chief had tested negative for coronavirus and has shown no symptoms of the disease.
The actress tweeted about her doubts over Trump's health on March 15, saying she doesn't believe Trump when he says he hasn't contracted the deadly virus.
“You know, #Donald says he has tested negative for #Coronavirus. But why should we believe him? He has lied over 16,000 times in the last three years! Why would he not be lying now?” Midler wrote.
The president has tested negative for COVID-19, per an announcement by White House physician Sean P. Conley. The test took place after reports that a member of Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro's delegation that recently visited Mar-a-Lago had tested positive for the virus later on.
“Last night after an in-depth discussion with the President regarding COVID-19 testing, he elected to proceed,” Dr. Conley said in a release. “This evening I received confirmation that the test is negative.”
“One week after having dinner with the Brazilian delegation in Mar-a-Lago, the President remains symptom-free," he continued. "I have been in daily contact with the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] and White House Coronavirus Task Force, and we are encouraging the implementation of all their best practices for exposure reduction and transmission mitigation.”
Midler has repeatedly criticized the president for his response to the coronavirus. In fact, she falsely claimed last week that Trump had called the life-threatening virus a 'hoax'. This came after the president used the term at a recent campaign rally to describe the Democratic party's alleged efforts to politicize the outbreak in a bid to hurt his administration.
